One idea I had for a force was a Paranoia inspired Guard force, using the Cannon Fodder models from Wargames Atlantic. The various kinds of units would be color coded in the classic Paranoia style (Conscripts are Red clearance, Infantry are Orange clearance, on up to Blue as Company Commanders). A Contrast-style paint would make this sort of scheme much easier to paint, as I could just slather it all over their jumpsuits and be done with it. I'm glad to know that between this and Warcolours's Antithesis paints, I have a lot more options. I don't need to pay GW's extortionist prices.
@housecaldwell
2 жыл бұрын
That's a really neat idea -- love Paranoia.
@Bluecho4
2 жыл бұрын
@@housecaldwell I came up with a whole backstory for the force (what I call the Paranoian Troubleshooters). Cloned citizens of an arcology run by an insane AI, on a planet on the edge of Imperium space. Is allowed to operate as it pleases, because the imperial tithe of raw materials, exotic finished goods, and cloned human slaves are just too important out on the periphery of the Imperium to be worth investigating. Except members of AdMech, who are very interested in the supposed presence of an Abominable Intelligence. If this were a Paranoia game, the PCs would get contacted by AdMech spies, trying to get them to betray the Computer. Their forces - the aforementioned Paranoian Troubleshooters - would engage in battles on their planet, or be shipped off to fight the Imperium's wars. Whichever seemed like the most convenient narrative for the battle at the time. A variant idea, good for Narrative/Crusade play, would be to say that every 109 years, the Computer obeys ancient programming by building an exact copy of an ancient starship, staff it with cloned and memory implanted crew copied from ancient records, and blast them off into space according to an ancient coordinates. Directions that are millennia out of date, and didn't take Warp instability into account. So you just have hundreds of copies of this same ship, with copies of the same crew, blindly shot into the galaxy, over and over and over. Each believing they were the originals, doomed to either die/disappear, or best left to wander space haphazardly. All while a copy of the Computer on their ship tries to be helpful, and only somewhat succeeds. Paranoia meets Lost In Space.

Not being a "War Games" / "Minitures" painter BUT 1/32 Slot-car Human Figure painter, I liked the Contrast paint's.... Yes there's problem's to them and it sound's like these have "ironed out" those niggle's. Would love to see example's of Human Face's painted as I'm 73, shake like a leaf and Eye's, etc. and impossible for me to paint. I did buy some Warhammer figure's to paint and found them easier than the larger 1/32 figure's, which amazed me.... Much more detail on smaller object's, helped. Alway's like your video's..... Your voice is easier to listen too, as well. Which make's them so much better.

Everone i seen that has tryed them like them better than contrast, my problem with contrast is the overly strong colors and they must be thinned a lot. I like the instant colors from scalecolor better, much more room to work in. I will get this line to so i can try it when they are released, Just like i have done with gw's contrast, scalecolor instant colors and warcolors antithesis

Interesting but I confess I did not really understand in what way these are different from contrast paints or scale75 etc.. (apart from price which I guess will be lower and dropper bottle.. already big thumbs up 4 me).. I mean they dry faster but apart from that?

Hopefully, they will have colors that can be used for WW2 figs.

What does the "sand" one look like over metallics? Does it give a rich gold akin to nazdreg yellow contrast, or does it just look weird?

I’ve often wondered, in the case of historical minis where the colors need to be specific, can you mix these paints to create different shades? Like a field gray for German jackets, and a lighter gray for their pants etc?

You can mix contrast colors, they are fairly transparent though. If you're aiming for a lighter gray, sometimes adding some of the medium is the way to go. GW's Basilicanum Grey is a basic gray color, but Gryphcharger Grey has a slight green tint and Space Wolves Grey has a fairly blue tint.

It's interesting that you keep mentioning painting over matt sealer. With contrasts I kind of liked painting over Gloss Nuln Oil. Looks good though.

True but if you add even a little bit of thinner you can run the risk of tearing off your paint underneath:(

Have you tried layering the different colours or would it get very muddy tones very quickly

@Spikey Bits would you say you could not have done that Deadpool at all with contrast or that it would take more time? What's the takeaway in the comparison?

What brush do you use to get such precise dry brush highlighting on your zenethal method?

They look like slightly different colours to contrast ! I wonder if there’s another chemical added to help the drying process! Hmmm I don’t think they replace contrast for me because contrast have been designed to complement the gw standard line of paints… I will buy them to add to my collection tho as more paints that work like contrast are needed

what is the matte coat you keep talking about? do you need an airbrush for it, or is it just a rattle can?

If they are priced well, I'm in. I've enjoyed the handful of contrast paints I have, but the GW paint prices are just too much for me to go all in.

Rotmader sable is natural, and that's what the white handled army painter brushes are made from.
