RE: combat speed, it's how fast you move on the battle map, and a higher combat speed is related to hitting first (as in, hitting before an opponent with slower combat speed) but it doesn't make you attack more frequently.

Thank you, I wasn't sure if I read that tooltip correctly. Cheers o/

Great videos! I'm new to the series and have watched a couple of videos to try and learn. Yours was the first to touch on how to increase defense and build forts in town, which is something I totally missed! Looking forward to the next one on magic. All the spell and magic options are really intimidating!

Best tutorial to explain everything. I always find that for example, the stats of units wasn't explained well. I mean the description is fine, but I like the big picture when you explain it for example.

Thank you for the tutorials! I’m very interested in playing but with all this information it’s been tough to understand how to do everything. Your tutorials have been great to learn from 😊

Semi experienced Dom5 player here. Looking good so far, for an entry series. Meanwhile internally Im like: but there's a hotkey for this and for that! 😛 (R for research, hotkey for repeating spells etc.) You're doing good to not let yourself get bogged down too much by those things.

The hotkeys got changed up a lot. F5 is now research and I've forgotten a ton of the Dom 5 hotkeys. I played Dom 5 for like 40+ hours singleplayer so I got some feel for what I'm doing here luckily. Thanks for your kind words, cheers o/

The research hotkey R I mentioned was to set a selected mage to research. I know, I wasn't very specific. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯@@Ic0nGaming

in dom 5 it was 1 fatigue per round regenerated naturally, or 5 after falling unconscious. From what i've seen so far, i don't think that was changed.

@5:45 p61 of the manual details the cooldowns after performing actions. After performing an attack, a unit will always enter a cooldown of *a full round*, whilst moving a step will incur a shorter cooldown based upon it's combat speed (thus allowing high-speed units to move more tiles per round, as is intuitive). The manual also mentions a bit of RNG variance to both of these cooldowns, but combat speed is not mentioned to affect the attacking cooldown, just the movement one. @8:40 p63 of the manual specifies that units only suffer fatigue (in height of their encumbrance) *when making an attack*, not 'per round'. Moving does not cause fatigue at all. @10:12 Might be worth mentioning the open-ended dice nature of the game: In almost all instances of dice being rolled for RNG, the results are 'open-ended': If a max result is rolled, 1 is subtracted and the dice is rolled again, adding up. (Example: a d6 rolls a 6. It is rolled again and results in a 4. The final score of the d6 roll is 6 - 1 + 4 = 9) This means that *any* dice roll in the game *can* very rarely explode into insane numbers and thus very few things are impossible. It's an amusing quirk meant to occasionally throw everything for a loop, and might just be worth being mentioned here (or somewhere, at some point).

Thanks for adding in the details for the interested! I did specifically not add all that into the video and saved it for later. These informations are valuable, but for the sake of information overload I deemed them less important at the beginning.

All this micromanagement with just 3 provinces in combination with the terrible terrible UI makes this thing unplayable...

*Laughs in Dwarf Fortress Jokes aside, the UI is definitely really questionable in many aspects.

it isn´t really that much. there are some auto functions there, too. it does stop bothering you when you get used to the games systems. medium maps are pretty playable.

I'd argue that the UI is actually quite good. It just isn't modern. Learn the hotkey's, love the hotkeys.

@@imperialus1 After getting more and more of the hotkeys into my gameplay experience: I agree! I have just one major nitpick: I want a "Do you really want to end your turn?" checkbox. So much. I've ended way too many turns by accidentally clicking on the wrong button when I want to get into the menu. Too much impact for a small misclick in a game without manual saving imho. But thats my only nitpick actually.

@@Ic0nGaming My own workaround for this is to select the option in the preferences menu that causes popup if you have a commander without orders, and then recruit a random scout, rename him DO YOU REALLY WANT TO END YOUR TURN? and park him in my cap on 'defend' for the rest of the game.
