Program notes:
I will establish in a few lines how Maldoror was good during his early years, when he lived happily; it is done. He then realized that he was born wicked: an extraordinary fatality! He hid his character as long as he could, for many years; but in the end, due to this concentration which was not natural to him, his blood would rise to his head every day; until, unable to endure such a life any longer, he resolutely threw himself into the career of evil... gentle atmosphere!
These words, extracted from 'Les Chants de Maldoror' by Isidore Ducasse, inspire the second piece in the cycle 'Songs to be burnt,' created around this work. This literary reference transforms into music not only through a dark and dehumanized atmosphere inherited from the protagonist but also through a series of poetic images that serve as a guide for the musical construction. By delving more concretely into its aggressive facet, this piece distances itself from the pursuit of the dark atmospheres that characterize the other pieces of the cycle. The aggressiveness, presented in the other pieces as brief moments of articulation, becomes a fundamental structural element of this new piece; a constant fight between the saxophone and electronics.
