@wallstreetatheist The pieces and board are made by DGT, a company based in the Netherlands that produces chess clocks and electronic boards (which can "sense" which pieces are on which squares, and relay this information to a computer). This is the standard equipment used at almost all top-level chess tournaments. I think DGT calls this particular set of pieces the "Timeless" style.

It's called an increment, the increment here was 1 or 2 seconds added instantly after each move made, to the player who made the move. That's about it, it's just chess, only a lot faster.

The end could have been spectacular hadn't Aronian resigned, e.g White plays: h7, Black: g1Q, White: h8Q, Black: Qb1 X checkmate. As soon as Aronian saw it he resigned...
@marcweeks9178

tennisblood A year late, I know, but I needed to correct you. When Black plays Qb1+, White plays Qb2; therefore, no checkmate. However, after Qxb2 Kxb2, black just has too many pawns.

Whomever is using his drill or juice machine or whatever that freaking ugly noise is, should be kicked in the head and then thrown out of that hall. These people have no respect to the beauty of the game and the artists performing on board. Cool game though, really liked it, don't forget its political background too. Thanks for sharing this.
