SCBAs, deck guns, and 2 1/2" lines were invented for a reason; use them! First arriving engine(s) must spot hydrants, lay in, and establish a water supply quickly. If not in a hydranted area, the first-in water tender(s) should nurse the first arriving engine(s). Next-due water tenders can set up porta-tanks to support ongoing operations. Big water quickly will limit fire growth and buy time to set up strategically placed handlines. IC should have coordinated a systematic sequence of tactics. These folks were running around without clear direction and coordination of efforts. I am a recently retired Blue Card certified instructor and have seen this circus scenario play out too often with improperly trained and practiced departments. Clearly there was fire in the attic space; but if you gonna be up there cut the hole and get off. With that much fire pushing out of the vent hole I would be real concerned about falling through. Oh and not a big fan of driving that fast through that intersection, not worth killing someone, including the guy trying to stop traffic.
