Awsome mod, I've been using these Traxxas tie rod ends on my 3s rigs for a while now, much better option then the hot racing pivot balls, which are actually made from aluminum which wear out quickly.

Hey Philly! How are you!!!! Ya I started doing this on all my 3 s line. I have all of them. Also use the traxxas 1/10 wheel shims on the top of the bell crank poles right under the bulk head in the front. Then I go into the rest of the linkage to the servo and use spacers. I was going to make a video of this. Great idea! I never heard of anyone else doing this. I guess it’s a obvious fix if your sick of the slop. It makes a world of difference! Great putting out there. Very useful! It should have come with metal ball ends to behind with. 💥👊💯

The shims work. I also shim the bellcranks where they attach to the Ackerman plate, I think it makes even more of a difference than the steering posts.

Great video! I was just installing new tires on my Big Rock and realized how bad the slop was.... not good at all! Did you replace the ends for the steering servo too? Looks like I have a lot of slop down in there too. Edit, nevermind.... I found part 2! Trimming down that ball with a Dremel sounds challenging. How long did it take for you do dl that? Thanks man!

For anyone that is doing this mod, I would recommend buying 1 Traxxas 5525 and 2 Traxxas 5529 pivot ball and shim kit. This would be cheaper and comes with its own shim kit. You just need to swap out the pivot balls for the bigger ones from the 5529 kit. You will have enough to compete the front and rear.
@phillybrc
2 жыл бұрын
Oh cool, thanks for the input. I was unaware of this kit, appreciated.

so which links get the 5525 and which ones get the 5529? or it doesnt matter?
@phillybrc

I believe the 5525 kit supplies the end links. This kit gives 2 different size pivot balls, some being on the small side. Remove the larger balls from the 5529 kit and install into the links from the 5525 kit. Perhaps J A is able to chime in here. Thanx guys
@JA-ho2kb

@@synergyiii the pivot balls from the 5529 set are the ones you want to use. You will notice the size difference once you get both sets.

This is a good upgrade, plastic balls wear very quickly 👍 I bought 2 sets of these 5525 parts, I removed 2 balls from spare rod ends, and I put them in the link between servo saver and steering rack. I needed to cut the balls a little bit - they were too tall. This is important, because the link between servo saver and steering rack also has plastic balls, which wear quickly 🖐️

Mesaage to 4s cars owners: Arrma cars have big rod ends on camber links and small rod ends on steering links. traxxas rod ends are medium size. For steering links if you use traxxas rod ends, the turnbuckle will be too long. There are 2 ways to fix it: 1. Drill hole in rod end a little bit to make it longer 2. Use 63mm turnbuckle instead of 71mm
@tyrellcorp2118
3 жыл бұрын
Fixing slop in the servo link does make a big difference. But the servo link itself also wears down. The Hot Racing aluminum servo link is much more durable (ATF48SH02).
@Marek_Z_RC

@@tyrellcorp2118 🖐️ Yes, it is a problem too and unfortunately you can't buy just the servo link. You need to get the whole steering rack to get that link 🤷🏻♂️ Arrma should use better plastic here 🧑🔬 I didn't try that HR part but it looks good 👍

What's the difference between doing this, vs swapping the stock composite pivot balls with aluminum ones? And only having to change out the worn plastic rod ends in the future? I could only assume that the aluminum pivot balls wear out? What metal are the Traxxas pivot balls made of?

I've found reducing the wiggle in the rod ends doesn't actually make the car drive straighter. What has made a difference is some things mentioned in the comments. Reducing wiggle in the servo link and shimming the steering posts and the bellcranks (where they meet the Ackerman). The Hot Racing aluminum servo link doesn't wear down like the stock plastic (ATF48SH02). The shims are 5x7mm. I no longer worry about the rod ends, my Granite tracks completely straight even though the rod ends have tons of wiggle.

Hey do you have any recommendations on a tool set to buy for both traxxas and arrma? I hope to go to Lowe’s and get driver bits, and then a mini cordless impact drill, but I don’t know if it’s all Allen key, or star bit, Phillips etc?

I recomend MIP tools for RC s. Well, I have MIP hex bits for impact , they are great. 2mm and 2.5mm will be most used on Arrmas. Lowes won t likely have them. They are not cheap but you will pay the same once you throw your first set out. As for hand tools, I bought a cheap set from asia from my local hobby shop. They are holding up great though. To be honest, I m not sure what you will need on Traxxas. I do have an 1/18 th scale traxxas and it s Phillips head.
