I love my Maxx. I got back into the hobby after 10 years and wasn’t very familiar with these new brands. I quickly learned that nitro is a thing of the past. have a T-Maxx 3.3 and a Revo 3.3 that are over 10+ years old and they still run and work. I completely ruined a 3.3 engine when I first got into the hobby and didn’t have my tuning down and Traxxas replaced it for free after a year of use. The customer support I received was great, I hope they are still the same, I see so many Traxxas haters on the internet these days. I think I will be picking up an arma granite or this arma 4s for my dad for his birthday, thanks for the videos and reviews!!

I have upgraded a lot on my Maxx and have it perfect at the moment. Wide kit, Traxxas CVDs, T-Bone wheelie bar with the Traxxas wheels, dBoot Backflip LPs, LED kit, and more. So much fun. I did read a lot of comments about arrma tough and arrma lower cost then the Traxxas but when you read carefully, people seemed to have put hundreds of dollars in upgrades for there arrma. So don’t tell me that the Maxx is the same price as the arrma 6s if you put 300-400$ and more in upgrades. From what I’ve seen, that Traxxas don’t need upgrades. And no! Plastic is not bad at all. And no! 6s power is not necessarily better. So all that been said and not really a fan of Traxxas outside the trx4, I think they did a really good job with the max. And remember it’s a monster truck, it’s not meant to perform at racing and cornering. Its built to be beaten. And I think it does perfectly. The kraton is at truggy, wich purpose is off-road performance and it does perfectly. Think about that, would you drift a f1? Don’t think so. So! And that is my tough, if you want to bash hard, get the max, if you want race performance, cornering and control, get the kraton. Cheers

Also, with Arma HQ being in the UK, parts availability is good (though so is Traxxas). I was surprised by the breakages on the Arma - other people have found them one of the most durable. Can't doubt the Traxxas though - those things look way tough and the quality is so high. But I'd go Kraton - a zesty package and can get two batteries and a host of RPM for the same ££.

I do comparisons based on vehicle class, not price. The Maxx and Kraton 4S are both 4S, 12.8" wheelbase plastic monster trucks. They are the same size, have the same motor/power, and same Lipo capability. The Stampede is a totally different vehicle, it's a 10.7" wheelbase, 2-3S monster truck, much smaller and less capable. Similarly, the Kraton 6S is a much bigger, all aluminum, 14.8" wheelbase 6S capable truck.

Also, change the tire out with the RedCat Kaiju tires are incredible and super cheap 60 bux for set of 4, and they completely blow the stock Maxx tires out the water in every way imaginable. I went constant velocity steel CVs and Full positrack with Hot Racing MXX125 Front and Rear Differential Locker Spool and upgraded central diff with the full metal diff then plastic welded it to make full posi in addition with the metal pinion 50t gear. I even replaced the plastic bushings in the wheelie bar with bearings 10x15 bearings fit perfectly. Also, replace the fans with R1 Works 30mm Low Profile 8.4v Cooling Fans Huge cooling performance different also indestructible I did add white silicon thermal paste to the heat spreader on the motor and what a massive heat displacement difference / improvement. Replaced the shock fluid with Lucas 80w synthetic silicon oil and I got shock socks and I added the stainless steel under armor I think people forget that part of this hobby if upgrading at least it is for me I enjoy the heck out of it. Experienced youtubers like yourself really helps viewers knows the pros and cons of each trucks if they are in the market of buying. When I first see the release of Maxx, I look at the size and weight and compare them in my head with the other trucks alike in that size and price. Like a fully build Proline 4x4 and losi 3xle, 1/8 6s rigs etc is same price as Maxx, but the weight and handling of those trucks, knowing it by watching videos on youtube, will all be a world of difference from each others. The market is flooded with great trucks nowadays. "In the end of the day, I just wish I have endless money for them all, so I don't have to choose ever! " But I still prefer the "heavier" Maxx between the two, because I know what im buying into, pricing of them won't affect my decision. Yeah, if I HAD to buy one, it would be the Maxx. I had enough trouble out of the 4x4 platform to know it's nearing the end, unless it get a ton of upgrades. My E-revo 2.0 still has a busted rear diff. It was a jacked up mess when I bought it so I rebuilt it. I shimmed the hell out of that diff & the teeth still snapped. Still no 3rd party diffs for it either. My Kraton can take 5 times the abuse. The rear diff in my v3 lasted over a year before needing replacing. I don't plan on having it as a money pit. My Arrma Siren is 9.2lbs, my truggified Typhon is 9.4lbs, both run 6s all day & are nuts. The Maxx is nearly 10lbs. That was a little contradictory, here’s the full explanation - the Maxx rotates slower and does not do anything weird, and is easier for a less experienced driver to “control”. Hi there, that was a fair and in-depth review. Where I'm from Kraton 4S sits at approx. 400 Euro, while Maxx at 637 Euro. Would that change which one you'd get? Am I better off dealing with Kraton's wore durability and buying stronger replacement parts later on?
@RazorRC

I love your videos, I'm a basher & racer, I listen to the race guys when it comes to setup. I have no comment on either truck as I've never owned either a 4S Arrma or TRX. I do own a Revo 2.0 & fully upgraded Arrma Notorious. The Revo I gave to my Step-son for his 14th birthday (it says on the box 14+😂). I gave it to him cause it's a good truck. Has diffs I wish I had, a good esc that I've never had problems with, has monster driveshafts, over twice the size outdrives (although they bend easier), and I upgraded it enough to be a solid truck. But it's not the beast my Arrma is. Now to be fair I spent a serious amount of money upgrading it, RPM A-Arms, skidplate, front bumper. m2c chassis, rear tower brace, ZRS shocks, motor mount. GKA chassis braces, Ackerman plate, Voltage Hobbies servo mount. JBI-6MM Towers. Hobbywing Max6 ESC, 4975 1650kv motor. Tekno shock perches/locking rod ends, pinion. Fast Eddy bearing kit. Anyways you get the point, basically the only thing left stock Arrma are the diffs, bulkheads, turnbuckles, driveshafts (although I converted the rear to CVDs), and plastics. I have so much left over I could build another truck😂. But I think that's what people love about the Arrma's, they use a pretty universally adopted layout. AE diff seals & shims work on them, Tekno parts work on them, not locked into a certain battery, doesn't have all the TRX exclusively. I can use many parts found on other vehicles that I can't on the Revo. That's why I don't have a 4S Arrma, they just aren't as "upgradable", and I think a lot of newcomers to the hobby see a KZitem video of an Arrma going full send (or TRX) and see us all happy like they never break. All RCs break, I spend countless hours keeping up the maintenance on my RCs. I found the Arrma easier to work on, and that was the huge deciding factor. I remember buying the Revo after being out of the hobby for over a decade, a Kraton 6S was sitting right next to it. I looked at the Kraton and it looked flimsy to me. I bought the Revo, and after re-educating myself, I bought an Arrma for $150 less on sale so I'd have the best of both worlds. The Revo ended up sitting half the summer, I kept going back to the Arrma, it doesn't roll over (seems to be a problem on a lot of TRX vehicles), like I said easier to maintain, and ultimately I baby it less, and therefore have more fun. And isn't having fun the point! 😁

18:10 - One thing you forgot to consider in the value equation is the parts and after-sale support. The $130 extra is what makes that superior parts & after-sale support possible. To me, the bottom line here is that for the Arrma, it is less durable and you can't get parts. Yet it's still not light enough to race. That puts it in No-Man's Land. Why can't you get parts for months at a time? Because they're pumping out a production run in China every few months; can't just react to demand with that model. Traxxas probably pays more for parts production as a result. I'm gonna look and see if I can find a Maxx vs. E-Revo 2.0 video.

@@Largetalons ....that’s what I meant. The choice seems to be durable+poor handling (Maxx) or great handling+less durable (Kraton).....but the Maxx and you spend time and money fixing the handling, or buy the Kraton and spend money fixing the durability issues. I went with the Kraton v5 route, as I felt that the v5 had addressed many of the durability issues that had been shown up on the earlier versions. I nearly went for the EXB, but it looks like they have introduced some other durability issues into that model with the diffs.

I dont own either rig so my comment probably wont pertain fully to this comparison. But I have owned 2 arrma and 2 traxxas. The traxxas I never had to replace 1 part on either rig and both the arrma I swear I would run them a couple times and something would break. And half the time I had to wait for parts to be back in stock so they sat more than they ran. Once again, different vehicles than in the video, but I've had great luck with traxxas. And dont get me wrong, the arrma were a blast when they werent broke and I'd say they prob they had better handling than the traxxas but I'd go durability over performance but that's mostly cuz I get annoyed having to wait for parts haha great video though! I've actually been debating between the maxx or an arrma so it gave me a little insight on them.

Interesting. The Kraton 4s won most categories, but you still chose the Maxx in the end. Kraton gets the nod in electronics, performance, value. Maxx wins in durability. I wouldn't even consider the radio as a major buying decision for either. Many people will just put their preferred Spektrum, Futaba, Sanwa, Flysky, etc receiver in these trucks anyway. You're saying that the Maxx is SO MUCH more durable than the sum of all the advantages on the Kraton? I'm not sure I'm following the logic, but a preference is a preference. 🙄

aside from the physical differences of the two trucks, you may want to consider the ethics of the company your purchasing from. Traxxas has several lawsuits against ARRMA and others for supposedly stealing "their" cantilever suspension design. This design has been used for over 100 years in many different applications and is certainly not traxxas intellectual property as they are claiming. They are a patent trolling corporation that stifles competition and development with their bullish patent enforcement. All things being equal, try to avoid traxxas. The RC hobby needs all the competition it can get right now. ARRMA is keeping Traxxas on their toes, which is a good thing for consumers. Prices are driven down and innovation is accelerated.

If the Traxxas Maxx wasn't so expensive, I would have purchased one for my brother. TBH, I think both are overpriced for only being 4s capable out of the box. I compare the price based on my Losi LST 3XLe. Mostly all 1/5 scale parts on a 1/8 scale truck for $499. I get it, something that big isn't for everyone. That being the case, I'd take the Stampede 4x4, Slash, Rustler 4x4 or 2wd. $530 is a lot of money for what you get. The E-REVO is barely much more and the only downfall of the Revo is the rear links and misaligned twin servos. I don't think either of these trucks should be more than $400. Yes, the Kraton is close to that price point, but that damn servo is (in my opinion) worse than Traxxas servos and that's saying something. Anyone who owns a Traxxas product (I own 4) knows what I'm talking about. Guess it's just a RTR thing. That being said, the Spektrum servos in my Super Rock Rey, as well as my 3XLe work great for me and they are RTR. I've still got the original servo in my UDR still and it's a yr and a few months old. We all get lucky at times I guess. None of my other Traxxas RCs still have the stock servos. At least steering servos. My TRX is still running all stock micro servos, the two locker ones are buzzing and grinding and the shifter one is fine at the moment. I haven't changed the servos out because I'm not sure if I just want to install spools front and rear, one spool in the rear, or keep the selectable lockers all around. I know of a few micro servos that reviews seem good on, but I've lost confidence on micro servos and am doing more research. Anyways, I don't personally think either of these RCs are the better buy as a few dollars more you can get a 6s capable machine, and a few bucks less a far more durable machine. Just my opinion.

@@EXTREMERC416 yes, there is, but more often than not, the more expensive ones last longer. Protek "Black label" is a strong and great quality for $159 while something like a Power HD 25kg is good. The BL will out last the HD in most cases by at least 3 times the amount of time. You get what you pay for in most cases. You are right though, there is a lot better quality servos for cheap than most ready to run servos. The S904 servo found in my Losi 3XLe is $47 and is 496 oz inch. That's not a bad RTR servo while a Traxxas 2075 servo is $46 and only 125 ounce inches. I can guarantee though that the quality Black Label will out last 3 of each unit and still cost less at the end of it's life than the RTR replacements would cost.

Also, it seems implausible to me that you owned an Arrma Granite and yet you're surprised that Arrma's brittle plastics break so easily. Say what you will about Traxxas using plastic parts where other manufacturers would use metal parts, but at least Traxxas specs high-quality plastics for their vehicles. Shawn Elliott sensorless motors cog at about 1-2mph, so you can’t just sit there at 2% throttle, it will stutter. The reason the Kraton arms break more than the Granite is due to them being 1-inch longer and with wider wheels with the same amount of width material at the hinge pin. Leverage.

@@RazorRC - You were blipping the throttle to at least 25%, over and over, even after the truck was moving. Anyway, stuttering depends on the quality of the ESC. SkyRC's ESCs increase their PWM frequency at very low speed which almost completely eliminates stuttering, a very nice feature to have. I'm giving you a hard time about this, but from what I can tell most RCers (on youtube anyway) have the same problem and it's extremely aggravating to listen to -- especially if the vehicle is nitro-powered.
