I'm siding with john on this 1 & I'll say y. Get ready b/c my comments r usually short but not today. Rene didn't do anything oliver that Oliver's own mother wouldn't do. If I remember correctly and I do, moira was afraid that if whe expose malcolm he would harm her children (&this was b4 he knew thea was his daughter) so she covered up the fact that he killed her husband & waited until the last moment right b4 malcolm destroyed the glades to have a press conference to try to warn thousands of innocent people who still died anyways, including tommy. I'm not sure what I would do in such a situation b/c i would like to say i would say something but even the best people would fold & try to save their own blood. It is quite rich & hypocritical for Oliver to completely disregard rene for doing the same, not to mention, selling out 1 person for your own flesh & blood is very smaller & different than selling out a whole city of people. Yet him & thea were some how able to forgave her for all of that & even encouraged her to fight her case, but he couldn't do that for rene. rene even came forward the 2nd he found out oliver knew their was a mole & prevented oliver from further blaming dinah. He even told him y he did it. Even I can respect that, I might not like it but I can respect it. Then in he comes with his half ass apologizing still blaming them for half the problem while pretending to accept blame for the other half👎. I truly believe that john & Layla would have done the same. Layla even said it her self when they were in the truck w/the baby & Damian darhk was standing outside. She told john to go w/their child b/c she knew that even tho it was her job to guard secrets & protect, she her self would choose her own child. I believe that oliver shot rene to hurt him critically or even kill him b/c he has shot rene & Jackson before but those were leg shots. Shooting someone in the torso is an attempt to cause serious injury or an attempt to kill & it would be hard to claim that it was a mistake because olie never misses. Another point, putting the team under surveillance was a mistake as John said but when olie, john & felicity decided to do this i immediately thought this was a very bad decision. He should have given them the benefit of the doubt & asked them first. No body on his team isn't trustworthy & rene is always the most honest & straight forward in the room. Because when oliver blamed dinah he came forward & he even felt bad about what he had done but oliver did not feel bad at all after he injured rene, he didn't even show up in the hospital to visit him. And diggle was right when he said that Oliver leaves a trail of dead bodies wherever he goes b/c his past enemies keep coming back to harm him. Remember john once said to olie do u ever this crusade of yours might have some unintended consequences. had stayed away like William's mom initially requested no 1 would've known that he had a son & she'd still b alive but I get it, fathers want to know their sons & they want their sons to know them. & another point, might not even have anything to do w/the above but I always found it strange that oliver & laurel found it ez to forgive thea when they found out she killed sara (a woman he loved) while under the influence of some plant but I dont think he ever truly forgive slade for killing his own mom while being under the influence of mirakuru. But I guess as long as its family all is forgiven.

@isaactheworshipwarrior6687

And everyone says Oliver was completely in the right. Diggle DID make some valid points, up until he slipped up and really showed where his mindset was at. I love how they outright called his behavior "out of chatacter," but if somebody like Diggle is speaking out then CLEARLY there's a reason for it. Even if the writing behind is lazy, they STILL gave him some good points.

They both made valid points. John was right about Oliver's leadership. And Oliver was right about Diaz and the main reason that led them to where they were at this point with his plans to destroy the city. John made a point by acknowledging that Oliver didn't have the best track record when it came to his leadership for the team. Oliver didn't always take other people's advice, but in Oliver's defense, when he actually was trying to do the right thing or listen to others, many times there'd always be someone trying to talk him out of it and insist he do things differently. Either that, or someone else on the team would've made the wrong call and then Oliver would end up taking the blame for it. So the team didn't always make leading easy for Oliver. Just like how he didn't always make things fair and compromising for them. So that went both ways for me. Another thing John was right about was Oliver expecting too much out of himself that it caused saving the city to be more vulnerable and overwhelming on him and everyone. Like Dig said, Oliver was a newfound father and husband, the mayor, while on top of trying to remain the GA. And he shouldn't have been trying to take all of that on at once. So Oliver needed to let John and the team take the reins more so that he didn't have all of that to deal with. Which he obviously did and wanted to for a while, so that he could be there for William. But, flip side of that coin, Oliver made a point by telling John that Diaz probably wouldn't have become as big of a threat if he hadn't been dealing with him in order to be stable enough to be able to fill in for him as the GA. He didn't want to disappoint Oliver and I get that, but if he couldn't handle it or give the missions his 100%, then he should've told Oliver he couldn't do it instead of hiding his condition from him and the rest of the team, while also allowing himself, and ultimately the team (referring to Oliver having to save Rene) to be more vulnerable out in the field. But John definitely crossed the line by saying what he said about Samantha being Oliver's fault. Even though it's clear he immediately regretted it. Whether or not Oliver could've prevented Samantha and William being captured, Oliver's focus at that point was on finding and saving William, and had Samantha been alive, she probably would've told Oliver that that's all she cared about: was finding and saving William. No matter what. And same with Oliver saying what he said about John killing Andy. Despite everything, Andy threatened Lyla and his daughter..and I don't completely remember, but I'm pretty sure John tried to find other ways to deal with Andy before he felt no choice but to kill him. Well, anyways, that's my take: they both made points and they both needed some sense knocked into them. Literally. And kudos to Felicity for coming in and getting a little maternal-like on their asses.

You definitely said everything I was thinking Oliver definitely tries to be a good leader and a good friend but sometimes even tho it was extreme he forced people to take responsibility for their own actions and kept trying to move forward in the end I see everyone talking about how he couldn’t forgive Rene but he could forgive his own mother for helping kill 503 innocent lives because she was family same with Thea but people don’t understand that to Oliver family is the most important thing he has after his father’s death he needed to make sure his mother and sister were safe then his mother dies by slade who he later forgives but he knew that Thea was only family he had left and without her he truly would be broken because his entire family would be gone but he forgave slade and Thea both because he knew that their actions weren’t exactly their own and they weren’t in their right mind but once they were they took responsibility for their actions and he forgave them because he knew that it wasn’t all their fault and they knew they did mean to do any of that yes he shouldn’t have just kicked Rene off the team and not have spied on the others but he suffered so much and he didn’t want anyone else to suffer because of him

Dig was definitely in the wrong this time. He made some good points but most of his argument was shifting blame to Oliver when 1. He let everything go to shit while he was the Green Arrow. and 2. Like Oliver said all the decisions weren't solely his, John was always right there, and if I remember correctly he was actually in favor of bugging the team but now that it all went to shit he backtracks and blames Oliver for all of it. I'm not trying to say Oliver is or was a saint and every decision he or the team made was the right call but john KNOWS better than to blame him for all of it, that's totally unfair. But anyways still love John of course, and this is a fantastic scene with so much emotion.
