Firstly good show good discussions. Secondly the reason why Man City aren’t signing anyone is because they have already signed the players they want to replace. For example Rodri was initially signed from A.Madrid to replace Fernandinho due to his total distance in his passing and defensive work which I have yet to see from any midfielder for the past 3-4 years except Xhaka at Leverkusen recently (he’s in his 30’s so it explains itself). Kovacic was signed to be a backup to Rodri due to the a smaller fee payed plus he’s similar to Guimaraes. Man City signed Maximo Perrone from Velez in Argentina who did well for Las Palsmas who is also similar to Guimaraes so overall they don’t need to sign a DM. As much as many fans who know little to nothing when it comes to comparisons in players Matheus Nunes is the Gundogan replacement(at least he’s meant to be) compare him to his time at Sporting then at Wolves with Gundogan 22/23 (even when Pep signed Gundogan from Dortmund I was like okay he’s a good midfielder but I don’t see the purpose of him being in the team until he did what he did). Claudio Echeverri could be the De bruyne replacement one would have to wait and see(you can compare this all on FBREF). As for arsenal I’m not that impressed by the Calafiori transfer for a simple reason: he’s a left sided Tomiyasu. I remember when Arsenal signed Tomiyasu and I knew of him as I watch Serie A somewhat regularly and he looked good so when I watched majority of the games he played under Mihajlovic I was excited to see what he could do although I was wary of his injuries which unfortunately came to be true. Coming back to Calafiori, I compared him on FBREF to Facundo Medina of Lens and Olivier Boscagli of PSV as those CB’s are quite underrated and it wasn’t surprising that he wasn’t much better than the pair but I took the benefit of the doubt knowing they play in weaker leagues. Then I remembered that Tomiyasu played in Bologna too and played similarly in the sense they played CB and RB (Tomiyasu) and LB(Calafiori). Surprising they were similar which disappointed me cause I was hoping he’d be at least better as he played for a good Bologna side compared to a Mihajlovic side that finished 12th. Overall you can check this all for yourself on FBREF but I know for myself that statistics aren’t everything but watching even a compilation of the pair on KZitem one can’t say they aren’t similar. One of the reasons why there’s a lot of buzz behind Calafiori is due to the fact he played well for rubbish Spaletti Italian side(no offense plus Scalvini and Acerbi would’ve played if not for their injuries), he played for an unorthodox Italian side that over performed, a lot of people watch the Euros so they once a player does well there’s always a team that foolishly overpays for a above average player and he looks similar to Nesta and Maldini while Tomiyasu is a Japanese international where in comparison to the Euros not a lot of people watch the Asian games

Calafiori had a really good season with Balogna allowing them to make Champions league. He was a key part in that. @@_Rambo. statistics in football are used as evidence to identify how good a player is that’s why the so called eye test scouting isn’t as reliable anymore otherwise almost any player would be the next marquee signing. For example if you watched Emre Mor for Dortmund you’d think this guy is the next big thing for wingers but there was a lot to his game that weren’t up to scratch. Another example is the signing of Declan Rice as he was signed as a potential replacement for Partey until it was realized he doesn’t have the ability to see a certain pass that can break an opposing team press like Rodri and Partey. Arsenal must’ve scouted him well but even I know looking at his statistics that he’s not that type of player and that’s totally fine but that’s how the manager wants to plays with a deep line playmaker instead of a ball winning midfielder. As for the comparisons to Maldini and nesta even if it was the Italians that were comparing him to them it’s most definitely the younger fans cause older fans will know that’s an insult to arguably two of the best CB’s in Italian history just because of one season and tournament. Plus read what I mentioned on him and Tomiyasu being very similar and look very similar in how they play. I’m not saying he’ll end up like that I hope not. Another example is when Liverpool signed Salah instead of Julian Brandt

@@nabeel426 I get it but thats whilst Merino is the next target hes won the most duels in europe by a landslide and is good on the ball and can go for the breaking line passes Partey often does which Rice will not do as we all know he’s too slow or doesn’t take the risk in playing the pass. Tomi is just always injured but is quality. Thing is we cant rely on Tomi to not be injured but when fit we can rely on him to rotate out the back line as he has been doing. I also agree Italians saying that about their legend is wild but im pretty sure its the grown men who have been making that comparison about Calafiori, I only knew about Cala last season but majority of the Arsenal fanbase did not know of him and it was the Italians describing him & saying nothing but praise about him which means a lot as Italians never leave Italy but the one that manages to does especially a defender is the one getting compared with their greats..

Mo is right in 1 aspect of Jorginho game. Which as a passer he is not great despite being a controller who dictated play (an elite controller & possession machine + good tackler, great positioning). Jorginho does not give crisp passes consistently. He would give you a ball thats too high or bouncing that asking to get you fouled. A pass a midtable or lower midfielder would give you, expecting to handle. He is not consistent or crisp with his passing. Every now and then he delivers a KDB type pass between the lines or pinpoint. Rice is a better passer then Jorginho in terms of consistency with his passing, long passing too. Rice gives you a crisp, sharp pass whenever he plays between the lines or whenever he makes a switch long pass. Rice however does not dicate play like Jorginho, he doesn't build up the play like Jorginho. Jorginho is more mobile recieving the ball back to goal & quicker feet. Partey is better then both when it comes to his variety of passing, dicating of play, consistency in his line breaking passes & buildup. Partey gives you the right type of pass, at the right time. He gets the ball to attackers early & fast. Rice takes too long, allowing opposition defense to settle/setup, Jorginho doesn't give you the ideal pass. Partey also more agile, quicker, crisper passer, better ball carieer then even Rice when fit. If you combined the best attributes of Rice + Jorginho you get a player similar to Thomas Partey when he is fit+ sharp. Partey main issue in his Arsenal career are 2 things. 1. Injuries. 2. Mentality. Partey issue is never the big games, performance levels. He's given consistent enough sample size to say he is world class. His issue at times can be his mentality when he is having an off game or he is not fully fit he can struggle or sink. You can bother him in the game if you start kicking him, although not common with his style, when he is hurt or unfit he can feel sorry for himself. I remember the North London derby away at Spurs Arsenal rushed back from Injury 2 months earlier then expected, Arsenal were desperate for points, he was suprisingly playing good given his fitness. Then he then got fouled just outside Spurs box, with a play on. Partey literally got up & walked off the pitch while Spurs were going down the other end on the counter attack to score. Arteta had to push Partey back onto the pitch with Kane then scoring from the counter making it 2-0. Partey v Palace got kicked around by Conor Gallagher and he struggled where Arsenal lost 3-0 away with him droppinng 0/10. The talent is unreal. But you also see for Ghana last world cup he was not the same player, he played like a shell of himself despite being one of the best in world at the time during 22/23 season. 0 presence in the midfield. Another factor being Partey at Atletico was 3rd lowest paid player in the squad around 50k-60k despite being there academy player & being a key starter. When Arsenal signed him they immediately made him the 2nd highest paid player at the club at 240k a week. A factor why he left Atletico outside it being the PL was for financial reasons & feeling underpaid. He had a spotless injury record, then at Arsenal while making 240k, living in London he's frequently missing games. There are alot of players who do sit out games whenever they aren't 100%, they would get medical team to rule them out of games. Alot more frequent when the team is doing bad & not playing for anything. Partey is one of those players. A player who isn't like that is Saka who does everything to play even when injured/hurt. Declan rice is another too, Saliba the same.

two things on partey, rory saying he looks gone is the most ridiculous thing i've heard. Bro literally, attempted and completed the most tackes in the game, he had 4 recoveries, 44 passes completed at rate of 90%, 4 of those passes were key passes, 2 interceptions, but "hE lOoKs FiNiShEd". does he look at physical best in preaseason ? no but other than odegaard and jesus and havertz tbf who did? ben white wasnt even bombing forward in the game, but i dont see people claiming his legs look they are gone? stop being silly! on jorginho i dont get your problem with him moh at the end of the day when arteta switched to him in the midfield arsenal went on like a 15 game stretch where the scored like 40 goals and conceeded like 3 and he was definately a key component to that, so for you to say 'what does he actually do?' doesnt make sense, calling him overated i suppose you could say that. but everywhere he's gone he's pretty much won things. I think liverpool will challenge tbh, i think they've got a good enough team to do it and tbh most of those players are reaching the twilight era of their prime, they havent got time for all this process stuff. I would never call arsenal favourites personally because i think thats disrespectful to manchester city, they've literally won the prem in back to back to back to back seasons and are two years removed from trebble season, how can they not be favourites ? Are arsenal closing the gab? yes are they favourites hell no... i still think they are issues with that team particularly in the front line that need to be addressed, we need another attacker that can hold their own with saka and his consistency, someone that can get 15-20 goals in the league with 10+ assists in their sleep like saka (btw its insane that saka does that season in season out) does, with either havertz up top (cause i feel geniunely he can get like 25+ GA as striker for arsenal, he pretty much was on pace to getting 35 GA last season). or martineli on the wing if we get striker. Essentially the thing that worries me is that we dont score enough goals from open play, we far too reliant on generating goals from set pieces and i think thats unsustainable because teams can more easily adapt to that. we need more creativity from the left hand side and just more pace up top. the thing ive found really interesting in preseason watching arsenal is the amount of switching the team is now doing and the desire to pump more long balls up the field, it will interesting to see how that works out in the prem next season but city are favourites

And then its like fine margins right, partey threads the perfect pass to martineli instead of shooting he tries to square it to jesus who's in the box, that gets blocked, livepool counter attacking arsenal open leftside, partey is too far away affect anything, gabby is now stuck between defending two positions at one and zinchenko is getting roasted, then score now instead of arsenal being 1-0 up we're 1-0 down. Like arteta has spoken about arsenal needing to improve their box efficiency when you look at phases that lead to martineli making the wrong decision and then liverpool subsequently socring after that, its the exact antithesis of box efficiency, its box inefficiency at its finest. but thats not on partey or gabby thats on zinchenko and martineli to a lesser degree
