Met Pete once back in the day, early 90's when I was full time over at the Army Guard Aviation just across the runway as a Blackhawk Crewechief. Nice guy. Awesome to see him later as one of the primary subject matter experts on Falcon 4 PC, which came out in 1998 and with mods I still fly to this day at times..Pete made it up to General, not sure what he's up to now. I currently work in F-16 spares acquisition for the DoD, working with F-16 engineers at Hill AFB though I'm still in Richmond Virginia area, not far from Sandston...look Pete up...he's stellar :)

Be careful in pursuit at 26:17. Bandit may have duped you into low energy state, especially with reduced power and slow airspeed (left hand backward movement). His energy state is clocking higher speed in the turn, with engines awake and pulling. He can roll out and climb up, over and behind you, while you fumble to spool up the engine and fight against gravity, to raise the nose.
@AnD1262
6 жыл бұрын
I know this is 2 years old but in my gaming experience, a climb up defensive maneuver used against me always ends in a plane completely filling my gunsight. A chase plane has more potential energy to play with if it's catching up. In the situation posed you are pitting; the acceleration of the leading plane vs the maneuvrability of the chase plane and the potential energy of the chase plane. An F16 has what 1.2 g's of acceleration and more than 9 g's worth of turning? I don't like those odds

This vid helped me so much in Falcon 2.0. Downed 2 Mig 29s w guns, and 1 mig 21 with an Aim 9 while in a vertical rolling scissor.
@MajSolo
8 жыл бұрын
+Brian Dang Really :) When you dogfight a lot vertical rolling scissors seem to be rare unless someone starts it. It more nose to tail turns chasing each other and nose to nose turns maybe turning into horizontal scissors is more common I think. Zoom and boom. Angles or energy tactics. I think scissors occur when the enemy does something that you don't catch and you also is low on energy and can't climb out of the way fully like a climbing turn he can not match and then back down on him. It sort of is a failure to end up in a scissor. The simming I done about 10 000 hrs human vs human scissors happen more often in WWII prop sims. One slow down close to stall and try force overshoot the other one does not fall for that so now both are very slow with full flaps .... and a weird slow scissor starts at stall speed cause no one can safely accelerate and climb up and away. In jets when you get nose on you spray and he is severly damaged. But I remember in falcon 4 I done some vertical scissors and I think the AI starts it cause it is a chapter in the manual I think. If you fly human vs human in for example Flanker 2 / DCS sim you have to fly 100% efficient and usually both players work with hi and low yoyos. To regulate speed and turn but refusing to give up energy. The guy with least fuel onboard wins. All I am saying is if you see him pulling some shit then you abort and go where he can not follow. If you get into a scissor then both of you have similar energy level. And doing it vs a Mig29 or SU27 that uses the high alpha capability that they have can be fatal unless they fail to shoot you and loose enrgy and start plumet down. Then you just need to fly around a little till there is enough separation and then go after them down. :) Anyways vertical scissors i don't remember to have done a lot. Also it is hard enough to fight 1 enemy and you did 3. :) That game really made you look good and feel good. :) (( Don't you wonder .... I am in a joking mode ... and happy ))
@briandang236
8 жыл бұрын
It started after a head on pass. He nosed up, I nosed up, now we were climbing vertically straight up and when I lift my head to look out, he was parallel with me! I could see the entire jet as if I were right above it when it parks on the ground and look down. So the stupid inexperienced guy just punched the after burner and just zoomed up, meanwhile, as I was working the throt n boards climbing almost side by side with him, I managed to get my nose right behind him and locked his ass up for an Aim 9. Also forgot to mention he waited too late to get out of the climb, he bled all of his energy by the time we got up 13k ft.
@briandang236
8 жыл бұрын
This maneuver works against mig 21 well. I don't think it would work as well against the Mig 29 since that plane has better thrust, the turn rate is almost as good or better. It would come down to the pilots skills.
@MajSolo
8 жыл бұрын
Brian Dang Agree I always climb after merge. I come in with excess speed so , refusing to bleed it off I climb to store it up. Not maybe vertical unless I am coming in at 600 knots or more LOL. Then u need vertical. But a climbing turn will do. But reaching corner speed quickly is important so in worst case pop speed breaks while climbing.
