To all the people saying "I don't get it". - Banksy is a guerilla artist who has kept his identity a secret for years. His artwork is iconic in London. He makes statements with all of his work, old man selling black and white canvases for $60, eating his sandwiches on the street in New York and then giving the customers hugs... This video is another piece of artwork.

Interesting concept. Not sure about the art truly being worth thousands, or more, like people are saying though!! A stencil, once created is reproduced quickly and easily, who says he even sprayed them - or ANY of his works for that matter? The main thing adding to the value is the fact that by buying the canvases, the customer actually became part of Banksy's artwork (the stall itself) for that moment. They not only scored the art but unknowingly joined in on his performance piece!

What this really says is that Banksy's work is not worth much more than $60. What people are really paying for is his name. That's how art works, art by itself is never worth more than a few hundred dollars more than the raw materials and time put into it. What makes art expensive is the name behind it. It's why shit can be sold for thousands of dollars.

Ever heard of the possibility of to talk to another person? In this example you could always ask the person selling these pieces, where they are from and let this person give you a proof etc.etc. or you could of course act within the possibility of your prejudices without opening yourself. So of course this experiment gives you the chance to think about a view things, perhaps about other ones than you first suggested.

To be completely honest I would have to know more about something to place any value on it. I mean you can't expect everyone to have an extensive knowledge of a single subject. Plus, he's selling them on the street. When people do that it usually means the art is hand crafted and holds no value since it can be easily recreated. I mean you never needed to do an experiment to remind people of the fact that looks aren't everything when it comes to art.

A lot of the messages are very powerful in his art, but are mostly presented in a very simple but often very creative and cleaver way, I guess thats one of the reasons. Also some of his messages he portrays in his art has got a touch of humour (or irony), in it even if its a serious issue. He seems to pick up on current social issues very fast and create something that makes people think. Google images of Banksy in google, honestly hes amazing.

Thing is, many shops sell these paintings or copies all around the UK, possibly the world- The original art on the walls is valuable, not these copies- you wouldn't buy a copy of the mona lisa or Rembrandt's night watch for the price of the original! Furthermore, the original has the value of being satirical and sending a message- it isn't the same when it is hanging in someone's corridor, instead of on the street for the public to see.

This video shows that the value of today's art is only determined by the ARTIST. If people on the street had known that BANKSY was the artist, this sale wouldn't have lasted 10 minutes. But, they chose to see the old man manning the shop and assumed that the art wasn't worth anything. Even the people who bought canvases didn't think about the meaning of the art, just how much they could get for it and that it looked acceptable.
