I season my cast iron with lard. Should work well here also. I asked a 90 year old lady how they refurbished their skillets. She said that, " I believe they threw them into the fire in the fireplace.....I tried it in my wood furnace, they soon get red hot, threw in a dollop of lard, back into the fire, more dollops and soon had a baked on patina that has lasted several year. No smoked up house with vegetable oil in the oven like "Lodge" recommends. Fire solved the problem, Try it with Lard ! Nice Product ! Good presentation !

@DskiGrillz
5 жыл бұрын
Robert Krogh Hi Robert, I’ve only done two cooks using the insert. The key is to clean it with a wire brush after the cook is complete. I believe if you wait until it cools it will give the surface a chance to truly gunk up. When still hot, I was able to push all of the residue into the coals and then once cooled I applied a light coat of cooking oil to ensure it doesn’t rust during storage. Hope this helps.

@DskiGrillz

The best way is to clean it right after the cook while the surface is still hot then coating the surface with oil while storing between cooks. You can also clean it before you cook by scrubbing with a wire brush and finally coating it with oil. Either way, oil is key towards keeping the surface in great shape. Hope this helps.

I think the arteflame is a great investment if you enjoy griddle style cooking. The only reason I haven’t used it more is due to timing and starting a new job. Instead I’ve been doing more kettle cooking as it’s much quicker and requires less management of the food being grilled. I do plan to get out there this spring and use it much more. Thanks for checking out the video. Hope this helps.

Glenn The attachment will rust if not coated with oil after each use. If this happens I just fire up the grill and add a light coat of oil while wiping down the surface with a rag. It bounces right back each time. Hope this helps.
