I just got this kit. There are no written instructions and just a DVD. I like these kits because of the detailed written instructions. I have the HMS Endeavour and Bounty as well as the Endeavour Longboat. But this is the first time I've had no instructions.

Before the planking is done the DVD instructions shows to file down the bow and stern. The bow makes sense as it's a case of shaping it to the V shape on top but the stern is baffling me. Does it need to be filed right down so that it matches the shape of that large dark brown V shape (where the man steering would sit) so that nothing juts out on either side? Sorry if this makes no sense but it's hard to describe. I'm wondering because the planking won't fit right against the side of that dark brown V unless that stern piece is filed down; but maybe there is a large gap.

Hi Lt. Gonville the stern is shaped as well as the ribs only so the planks lay so flat as possible. The bow as you say needs to be shaped. So if you soak a plank then bend it from the bow you shaped you should see how the plank is touching along the ribs to the stern. You will see where you need to file so the plank is going to sit as flat as possible against the ribs and stern. Hope this helps

@@martinfranklin9369leisuretime It solves it completely! Thanks a million, Martin. It's my first time building this kind of thing so I'm on a steep learning curve. If I end up with something an eighth as beautiful as what you've built I'll be happy. Cheers again!
