Really sad to listen to. He's not a bad person, he's just ravished by his own demons.

Barry Lab It’s not discipline. Discipline, and mental fortitude, will power, and “manning up” make NO difference when you’re an addict. Let me put it to you like this, go eat a couple boxes of Ex Lax and have the “discipline” to not shit your pants. That’s about as well as you’ll do with trying to deal with addiction with nothing but your own discipline. It’s a disease. Would you ever tell someone suffering with cancer that they need to man up, and deal with their disease with their own will power and discipline? Of course not, you’d tell them to go get treatment from a medical professional. Rehabs are great. They’re really good at getting people off drugs. But unfortunately it doesn’t end there. Because the “experts” at staying clean and sober aren’t medical professionals that bill your insurance; no they’re the men and women of AA and NA. That’s where many people relapse. They think once the drugs are gone then the addiction is all over. It’s not, and unfortunately addicts will never be able to go back to what their lives were like before they became addicted. Basically you can’t unring a bell. You have to be willing to make some major changes. And that’s where Artie gets in trouble. It’s sad.

How many people can tell a story like that with the poignancy he does and make it come alive the way he can? Very, very rare. P.S. That's "poignancy." Not "pregnancy."

AMAZING how open he was here! That child ( whom Artie foresaw as a boy) would have allowed him to be the father his father wanted to be and changed his life. She broke his heart TWICE! First the baby..then she left. 😢

That kid would have changed his life permanently and there’s a reason for that. To get over addiction, you must feel the need to do it for yourself. You feel the need to owe it to yourself. And Artie hates himself. With that being said, one thing that’s very clear with Artie is he loves those around him and goes out of his way to please them. With a child in his life, he would get over the drugs because he would truly have someone he’d feel the need to be sober for. Artie is no idiot. And Artie would have been very aware of what his actions and absence would do to his kid, just as what his father’s death and absence did to him.

If people listen to his stories maybe they wouldn't rip him apart so much. He is just like us damaged. I went thru same thing with GF of 8 years. You won't change. You chase danger. Im a bodyguard. I need a guy at home daily. Not $$. It hurts hearing you're great. Just not for me. It hurts. And we numb that pain so we can live life....

What a disrespectful thing to say. Just because he wasn't at a place in his life where he could be stable enough to raise a kid doesn't mean he can't be upset when the pregnancy ended.

I think Artie gives that girl to much credit for her so-called wisdom. A lot of it came from her friends advising her what to do and say to him. She indulged in foolery just like Artie , but she doesn't take the good with the bad because she wants it both ways. So she clips Artie now that the fun is over or it's time to move on.

The sad part of the story is that the girl was no visionary. And unfortunately he can’t see that, because he is still an addict.
