I just received mine. I am amazed straight out of the box. Intonation done already. I will set it up the way I like it then I am done. Great pickups. No issues at all and for the money? Wow!

What a great review. Artist Guitars certainly seem to be shaking things up a bit. Would love to see them produce a 12 String electric along the lines of a Rickenbacker 3xx/12 or 6xx/12 with a similar value equation to their LP and Strat lines.

How fortunate are the young players of today to have such great quality available at such affordable prices Looks good sounds good at HOW MUCH???? Under $500 Awesome . Artist are the best value guitars in Australia . And I am a guitar snob from way back .

Really wish Artist would release limited edition ranges of famous guitars. Would dearly love to see what a Frampton Les Paul Custom Black Beauty replica with the extra middle humbucker pickup would sell for from Artist.

I bought that model last year. It is the best LP copy I've ever played, even better than some genuine US Gibson. Gibson quality varies dramatically. I should know because I used to work for the Gibson importer-distributor. The only thing that I would whine about are the pickup covers. The bridge pickup started to squeal because the factory didn't properly pot-wax it. I just took the cover off and it no longer squeals. Apart from that, it's an amazing guitar. The action is great, it sounds great and it's all round a great guitar.

Beautifully played, Peter! Well done by Artist for bringing this fine instrument to us at such a value price. I’ve got a few Artist guitars myself-my ST62 gets way more use than my MIJ Fender 1985 Strat! Can you share your setup for the overdriven solo tone? I’m listening through some reference headphones and your tone is amazing!

This was done through and AXEFX FM3. A stock preset. I think a Deluxe Tweed into a 2x12 cab with some BBE distortion. Reverb and DLY to taste.

ARTIST guitars are right and quality made. Not expensive, but a very good basis for further electronic mods and mechanical improvements. Up to original LP (or other originals) level and more. Perfect for different experiments that you can later realize on expensive original instruments.

I scored two brand new at Vinnies a less Paul and Squire style for $ 200 but they are left handed , I'm thinking of detuning and experimenting with heavy sounds , maybe swap strings back around but I'm not sure it will play the way it's supposed to , or just sell them surely left handed guitars are rarer so more valuable and impossible to sell ??🎸

They are a fantastic guitar for the price. Although I did have a few issues to sort with mine - like grainy fretboard, nut wasn't cut too well and a few sharp edges. Then just had to do the normal initial setups (action, nut height, neck relief etc). But once that was sorted it plays extremely well and the lighter weight doesn't go astray either.

And therein lies the challenge with these guitars. Any additional work to get them set up properly costs additional money if you can't DIY. So a $450 AUD guitar can quckly become a $700 to $1000 guitar. You are then heading into Epiphone territory. And the Epi is probably going to have a much higher resale value.

@@karmicselling4252 Well yes you could look at it like that. Personally I think anyone looking at a guitar at this price point should expect it might need some minor setup work. If it doesn't, it's a bonus. But I've also had $1000+ guitars that needed work. Any new guitar could require work, which would require additional funds if you can't setup your own guitars.

@@peterschmidt9942 Peter, I agree with everything you say. I've had $3000+ guitars that needed work. But I know exactly what I want from my guitars. You sound like you do too. However, many people purchasing guitars at lower price points often don't understand that even a new instrument will probably require some sort of setup work. They spend $500 odd dollars and possibly end up with something that isn't quite right out of the box. They then either return the instrument or figure out they might have to spend more money get it playing right. The worse case scenario is that they persevere with an inferior instrument and eventually give up playing because it is all to hard. Saying all that, some of these Artist instruments look like absolute rippers. I'm seriously looking to buy one of these chambered LP clones. And of course I would get it set up properly and possibly swap out the pickups for something better. But I know exactly what I'm looking for in a guitar. And as I rarely sell my guitars, resale value is not important to me. Getting 95% of a real Gibson LP for 1/4 of the new retail cost is a very attractive proposition.

@@karmicselling4252 The main thing I see generally between a lower priced instrument is that they don't spend the time to set them up correctly by taking shortcuts. This could be uneven or sharp frets, generic cut nuts. It's forgivable and even a given on a lower priced instrument. Not to say all lower priced instruments are like this. But when you're seeing some of that on higher priced instruments (like Gibsons and Fender), there's no excuse when you're paying those sorts of dollars. Unfortunately, it's part and parcel with lower priced guitars. Especially in the beginner range. Nothing worse than giving a kid a present to start on and its not playable. But a lot of music shops do basic setups included in the price (strings, action, intonation and smooth sharp frets).

Hi Peter, love your review. I never have an electric guitar. I am playing nylon and steel (with DIY undersaddle pickups). The clean sound of the guitar is beautiful. With the song you played, did you use a distortion overdrive?
