Buffalo migration, canoes on the river, American Indian hunting parties-all these scenes of the frontier come to life in Steve White's paintings. The Mason County artist uses watercolors and oils to create the world of American Indians and early pioneers who traveled and lived in the region.
White, who lives with his wife in a 1790s log cabin, frequently depicts the Buffalo Trace, the buffalo migration route that extended from what is now Big Bone Lick State Park across the Falls of the Ohio to Indiana and beyond. Many paintings focus on the fur trade.
White not only paints history, but lives it as a participant in living history presentations. A graduate of Morehead State University, he taught for years before he began painting full time in 1990. He is also known for his paintings of historic downtown Maysville. He has won numerous awards and his art has been reproduced on magazine and book covers.
