In poland we use a dark clay (mixed with white variant) tenax. Not cement, it hold very well and we get easier removal in future. Cement is only for foundation not for stones themselves

Do you use brick mortar?

Hi there, we use general purpose cement. Mortar or any premix with aggregate will weaken the joints and prevent the dowels from functioning as they should.

Nice demonstration guys, its good to see installations that are carefully demonstrated. Im a monumental mason from uk, 22 years fitting new and old memorials also restorations etc. Nice one

Ok. In a clear headstone like this, how do you label it after being set?

Usually the wording is etched before installation. If wording is to be added, we would remove the stone to add this.

What size are the bars 16mm ? Also how high do they have to stick out if the base to go into the top part of the headstone ?

We use 13mm fiberglass rebar, the NZ standard recommends a minimum of 100mm of rod up the headstone, but you will need to measure the dowel holes in your physical stone to ensure there is enough clearance and adjust the rod height to suit.

That cement joint between head and base looks awful you only need to cement the dowels in

The cement packer is to prevent damage to the stone or base, in the future removal of any memorial.

Excellent. You men did it correctly. I saw other guys not using rebar dowels; just glue or silicone. Unbelievable to make something so beautiful and not give it structural integrity to have a chance to last.
