Probably "live" recording, where you play and sequence notes in real time instead of step by step, as shown in the video. The MicroFreak doesn't have a metronome, and even if you're playing along with a drum machine or something like that, it can be hard to time the notes just right - the keybed/sequencer sometimes have a mind of their own. It's typically easier to just write a part and then sequence it step by step, as shown here. Although it would be nice if they showed us how to insert ties/rests - I know how to do it, but other viewers might not. A fun tidbit - once you have a part sequenced, you can edit it later using the rate/swing knob under the ARP/SEQ section. You can also use the Oct|Mod button to shift notes up/down by octaves while sequencing or editing your part.

There's a tie/rest button. You can scroll through the sequence note by note and insert them or move notes around if needed.
