The Arturia V collection is a God send.! So many of the instruments that you could never afford in one space, I even have most of them logically mapped out on my Novation SL ZERO. So I have some hands on control. Loving the CMI on this update. And also loving your enthusiasm for all things noise generating bro.!

Great that Arturia added the Easel. It was for 40 years or so, always some kind of mistery for me. Now I know why the "east coast synths" became more popular: it is not the device I'll be using because I can't program it and it sounds and looks like a cheap little metal cigarbox. But I love the rest of the collection. Thanks for the nice video !!

Beat it was the Synclavier, not Fairlight. I recently tried to understand FM synthesis, everyone e seems to get it, I don't quite have it understood, but to me because of the terms used like feedback, it seems like a random, organic, unpredictable form of synthesis, which intrigues me, with this GUI it becomes more powerful. I am realizing my need for soft synths as this is impressive. But I have to wonder can they replicate the hot, large components that required a relatively large sized box to produce before.

One of the great things about their midi controllers is the copy of Analog Lab you get with it. In this he uses presets, which Analog Lab gives you, plus some tweakability with the provided parameters, and it comes with the keyboard you buy. Bad thing is that it acts like a gateway drug where you really want to get the Collection V to gain full control over the synths.
@daemonelectricity

The Music Easel is one of the few modular/semi-modular synths that CAN have presets, however it is a ridiculously expensive accessory. ,The cartridge slot is meant to hold cards with patches on them that you can buy and solder patches on.

What would really kick butt would be to program DX7 sounds using the VST, then transfer the settings into a real DX7 (assuming that there is a match between each parameter in the VST and the parameters available in the real DX7). Also, does the DX7 VST mimic the DX7 II ?

Great video! Do you have to use “analog lab” with the presets? Or can you actually use the individual instruments such as Roland Jupiter 8, or prophet, or mini v as individual synths that you are able to tweak with the synth interface/knobs? As I am looking at buying the V6 collection rather than the individual analog synth packs as it will be cheaper! Thanks.

I don't think I've ever been so impressed by the versatility of the DX7's sonic capabilities; back in the day all I heard were people playing presets. That, combined with the typical 'FM Synthesis Fear Factor' did not make this a compelling instrument for me. Your presentation on this thing is just great - a really inviting intro to this misunderstood instrument.

The intro-sound of Michael Jackson's Beat It comes from the Synclavier II, not the Fairlight CMI. The video is giving the wrong impression here. The Beat It sound can be heard on the Synclavier II demo record, that can be found on KZitem too. "The Incredible Sounds of Synclavier II (1981)" (at 06-40m) Many of the sounds you can hear on the Synclavier II demo record, have found their way into major record productions of the 1980s. Used in Hollywood studios by early adopters. Professional musicians and (REAL!!!) producers (I have a problem with everybody calling himself a producer these days, it's ridiculous). This is like synthesizer archaeology. Synthesizer archaeology can be helpful in being creative, when dealing with an overwhelming Smörgåsbord like the V Collection. How is anyone going to fathom, having all these different synthesizers thrown at them?! By investigating them. By investigating a synthesizer, people can find out what these instruments used to mean back in the days. Many videos can be found on KZitem about every synthesizer. It's about recreating the fascination of discovering new sound possibilities. Recreating that feeling is an inspiration to make music. Everything else is just phoning in presets. Despite the mishap I like the video. I like how you got right to the sounds, without getting caught up in parameters and technicalities. In a demonstration of a VST synthesizer, I want to hear the signature sounds that make it worthwhile. I'm like "play the damn hits already". lol Some guys are explaining and explaining. It takes them like ten minutes to get to the first beep. Ugh! :( The V Collection is great to have all these different sound characteristics at hand. All in one box. It could be as small as a notebook. Possibilities that only people like Quincy Jones, Peter Gabriel, or Herbie Hancock used to have. It's like your own Hollywood studio. Being genius is up to the people themselves. No hard- or software is going to do that. Duh! :)

This sounds like a problem with your computer and/or hardware. I'm running V Collection 6 on an 11 year old iMac (with upgraded memory and SSD) and while it takes 2-3 seconds for the synth to open, once it's opened it works perfectly. My system specs are 2GB over the memory spec, and 0.1GHz under the CPU spec.
