at 0:35 you mention that you believe "Yesterday" by the Beatles was the template for the Stones to come out with an acoustic ballad with strings. I asked their producer Andrew Loog Oldham about this by email several years ago. He wrote that the Stones recorded "As Tears Go By" because they needed a new single for the American market which required more single releases than the UK. He mentioned that it was "hardly a response" to "Yesterday". Remember this, Marianne Faithfull originally recorded "As Tears Go By" in the summer of 1964, which has an acoustic guitar and strings, and that was about nine months before Paul McCartney finished writing "Yesterday". The Stones version is slightly different from hers as they are not going to make it exactly the same. The song is a ballad, an acoustic guitar and strings fit the song. It's not uncommon to use instruments like acoustic guitar and/or strings in ballads. Also, Keith Richard mentions that he wrote "As Tears Go By" with an acoustic guitar.

The acoustic 12 is a very underrated but essential part of the early stones sound. Great job Doug! Also, loving the stache 👨🏻

I don't know how accurate this is, but I believe this is the first original song that Mick and Keith wrote together. I heard a story that they realised the Stones would never be a success if they continued to do only covers, so they sat down together to write an original song... and this was the result.
@12footchain

Yeah I heard that same story, I think it may have been The Last Time though in terms of the song.

You are using a 12 String guitar but the cord diagrams are for a 6 string guitar….are the other 6 strings just for show?
@12footchain
4 ай бұрын
its all the same. the 12 string is just 6 pairs of strings, the fingering is the same. so where it shows 1 string on my chart, on a 12 string guitar there is actually 2 strings there. I just didn't want to create new fretboard charts that had 12 strings on it. chord shapes in here are the same for either a 6 or 12 string.

Mick was more of a front man for the band, where all the Beatles sang lead and harmonies as far as performance, but maybe copied Beatles template for writing songs
