Can you just use the Spring for he upgrade or do you need to use the barrel upgrade as well?
@dansandy7670
4 жыл бұрын
I ended with a similar upgrade kit (with the spring, spring guide, and piston). After realizing the 90° won't work with the ASG M40A3 sportline (and wasting money on 2 different action army pistons that don't work), I realized that the 90° piston from the upgrade kit is aluminum (which is a soft metal)... so, i took a metal file, and slowly shaved the 90° piston's lip into a 45°. I just kept on holding it next to the original piston to make sure i didn't take too much off. After shaving and sanding rough spots, the trigger sear appears to hold the modified piston properly! I've only fired about 20 rounds through it, but it looks promising. I'm only bringing this up because there doesn't seem to be a decent 45° piston that'll fit.

Does the red action army piston+spring+guide kit not work?
@dansandy7670

@@T4nkcommander it won't work in the original cylinder. The best thing you can do is get an upgrade spring (not 500 fps), and make the stock piston a little heavier. You could also install an action army hopup unit, but that's about it. The ASG M40a3 is made of soft metals, and can't take substantial upgrades. @dansandy7670

The 90° piston wil fit in the cylinder, but the 45° trigger sear struggles to hold the piston back (didn't always lock in the piston when you pull the bolt back). I have not found a substitute for the stock piston yet, but found that you can use a metal file on the 90° pistons lip, and shave it down a bit. You need to make sure you get the kit with the aluminum piston (similar to what he has), because it's soft enough metal to shave.... the other option is buying the $170 ASG trigger assembly that's compatible with the asg m40a3 proline

I’m a bit confused with the barrel, if I upgrade to the AA hopup does it now fit the AA aeg barrels? Also with the autobot bucking what degree? Lastly (for now) can I use any sniper spring... @dansandy7670
4 жыл бұрын
@@TotshotAirsoft Hey there, I don't have all the answers, but I'll fill in info where I can. If you're on FB, I'd highly recommend joining the group named "ASG m40a3 sportline owners Group", which has a lot of good info. An important note is that the base gun is inexpensive because it's made of softer metals, and it can only handle so many upgrades. IF you are planning on making an amazing sniper, you may want to start with a different base gun (like the Bar-10 or SSG-10), but if you accept that there are limits to what you can do, then there are a few options out there to improve performance. If you're going to use an AA hopup unit, it's my understanding that they can use AEG barrels. If you plan on keeping the stock unit, ASG does have a tighter bore barrel on Evike for cheap. I kept the stock hop unit, nub and bucking, and can hop 0.4g bbs with no problem. If you go with the AA hop unit, I'd highly recommend a barrel that has an r-hop patch. there's one on Amazon for about $60, that comes with 6.02mm barrel (w/ patch installed), a nub and modified bucking for r-hop (Look up "Elvish Tac"). This alone will make a big difference in distance. As far as bucking goes, If you use .40g i would use 80° and anything less than .40 i would use a 75° bucking. Maple leaf Autobot buckings seem to be very popular for sniping. Spring - Be careful with this one, as if you use something too powerful, you will destroy your cylinder (I'm not 100% certain what cylinders are compatible). I only know this because I've done it... Had to hammer things back into shape and file some metal down... ASG does have an upgrade spring on Evike as well. Search "S&T Upgrade Spring for M40A3 Series Airsoft Sniper Rifles - 500 FPS" (it's only $8, and won't destroy your gun). There are some other compatible spring options, but I'd look in the FB group for other options. Note that a more powerful spring will make for a tougher bolt pull, but that will ease up with time. There aren't any 45 degree piston options available right now, and I'd highly recommend sticking with the stock piston & piston head. The easiest changes you can make to this gun to improve performance are - adding Sorbothane pad to inside of cylinder head, and teflon tape (PTFE) to the threads (in conjunction with a more powerful spring). Other than using a tighter bore ASG barrel, these are the only upgrades I stuck with, and have been happy with the results. look up "Easy DIY Airsoft Spring Sniper Upgrade" on KZitem. It shows a simple mods to make your gun quieter with a stronger spring. The cylinder is compatible with ASP2 spring rifles, but I've only found 90 degree piston options that will further screw up the gun (The stock trigger/piston are 45 degree). For further questions, I really think you should consider joining the FB group previously mentioned. Hope that helps! Good luck, and happy hunting!

@@TotshotAirsoft lol... Happy to help I originally installed this upgrade kit: www.evike.com/products/32451/?fbclid=IwAR3obepmRO3ez7v39-hJvtk9tF6xaIZsuQCGCvMwZ5wF8FnDfYGryAHr6KI The piston will fit in the stock cylinder, but it's a 90 degree piston, and doesn't work properly with the stock 45 degree trigger in the ASG... because the piston in the kit is made of aluminum, I decided to use a flat metal file, and shave it down so that it would work with a 45 degree trigger (using the stock piston as a reference as I shaved metal away). This actually did work for about 500 rounds... then it ruined my cylinder and prevented me from pushing the bolt handle back in without a fight, and it was causing the gun to jam where I couldn't pull the trigger all the way, and it wouldn't return to it's normal state. After tearing the gun completely apart 5 times to find the issue, I realized that the cylinder had bent near where the piston sear comes in (where if meets the trigger assembly)... The bent cylinder was pushing down on the top of the trigger assembly every time I'd compress the spring, which was jamming the bolt & trigger. The other issue had to do with the modified piston. the part of the piston that contacts the trigger sear started to misshape. I found this was scratching the inside & outside of the cylinder. This is what I found was causing the tough bolt push. I'm sure I could have shaved more metal off the modified piston to smooth it out, but I'm certain it would have just done the same thing eventually. I fixed this by going back to the stock piston (but I added weight to it with lead tape for joule creep, and did the tin can mod). This all happened because the spring in this upgrade kit was actually putting too much force on the top of the cylinder (when the spring was compressed). To explain the theory of the pressure from the piston, I'd look up the difference between 45 & 90 triggers/pistons in regards to how it holds back the force of the spring.

Everything is stock inside the gun aside from the piston, guide, and spring I am trying to use which is the L96 upgrades I see Everyone else using without an issue, only one comment I have found where another is having this weird engagement issue with the piston and 45 degree sear. Sometimes, but rarely it will engage, but the trigger does nothiing, it can either have zero draw as if its not even charged, or the trigger simply will not move. Also, rarely the sear with engage the piston, fail to fire with the trigger pull, but if the cylinder/bolt is pulled back again, it will sometimes engage and then fire. Can someone please.. Please give me some advice here I've had this rifle before with no issues so I cant seem to figure out WTF to do with this ehh.. "Hiccup" -C.

@@rumingjiang9645 well the cylinder for this is the diameter of a l96, but the l96 piston isn't long enough.. the other 2 vsr10 piston I bought, the length was correct but the diameter is 2.6cm to big, i am having to hand sand it to fit... I can't seem to find a 45° piston that will work with this gun, it seems like a 90° setup is the only way to go. Any ideas are welcome, i can give you my fb messenger and show you exactly what I mean... i am stumped and out like 120.00 And the standard vsr10 Sears I got from brill armory, do not fit the trigger box.

I am awaiting delivery of this, my first airsoft anything; and this tutorial provided considerable help. I would be interested in your opinion regarding a trigger upgrade. My research revealed quite a few concerns that, without an improved sear or trigger set, an upgraded spring is likely to cause eventual trigger failure. Thank you. Steve

Yes that’s true. Upgrading the spring will shorten the life of the rifle although there’s no way to know how much. Unfortunately there is no trigger upgrade available for this gun right now

There is a compatible 90° trigger assembly (that's for the asg m40a3 Proline) but it's $170

Do you have to put the hopup upgrade in
@dansandy7670

No... people do it so they can use upgraded bucking and barrels. ASG does make a compatible 6.03mm tight bore barrel, that'll fit the stock hopup.

What is the correct piston to buy for this Is it aps2 or vsr-10?
@dansandy7670
4 жыл бұрын
Aps2 but, it had to be a 45° piston (unless you want to hand file a 90° piston down to a 45)

Fyi, i did purchase this power upgrade kit. www.evike.com/products/32451/ but it does have a 90° piston. Although it is the right dimensions, and will fit in the cylinder; you would need to shave down the 90° to have it actually work. I just used a flat metal file and shaved off the lip to match the stock piston.

I haven't found a 45° piston that'll work, however, you can modify the aluminum piston in the power upgrade kit by shaving down part of the 90° lip with a flat metal file

The 90° piston won't lock into the 45° trigger sear properly. If your piston is made of aluminum, you can use a metal file to shave the lip down. This will allow the trigger top hold it back properly. If you do this, don't take off too much material, and use the original piston as a guide.
