The chortle and burble of that turbocharged Seymour and McIntosh 539T, 1000HP engine is music to my ears.

Unfortunately it's engine block cracked several years ago and it's been mothballed ever since and it's only used for parts for their second s2

4:35. The joy of railroading in winter. At least you had an air hose. I always had picks and shovels to dig us out of snowdrifts.

What a great video! Little Alco switchers in the snow. There aren't too many of these little monsters left in revenue service these days.

The Alcos always had turbocharger lag. That is why they produced so much smoke when revving up. They ran rich until the turbo spinned up to lean out the fuel to air ratio.

I just discovered this video. Now that I reside in Conneaut I will have to check this line out. Happy holidays to you. Also, neither CSX or NS will operate any trains on Christmas day and possibly the day after. Going to be pretty dull without the usual train sounds.

I used to volunteer on a railroad, and the engine sounds like an Alco, but this locomotive has the body of a Lima-Hamilton

zachary nascimento nope, it's definitely an Alco S-2. A quick spotting feature for a Lima is angled number boards at the corners of the hood in front. Also, this unit has Blunt trucks which no Limas ever had.

Yeah, lol I forgot. I used to volunteer at the Whitewater Valley Railroad in Connersville, Indiana..and we had like only 1 Alco S-1 and like 3 Lima-Hamiltons.

Wow that's Bud Bruggerman??? I was starting to think the same thing. I worked with Bud on a shortline in Alabama and I recall him telling me he worked on this line. I recognized his voice switching those cars .
OSHA has limited jurisdiction over railroads, mostly covering shop environments and hazmat/right to know. Most work rules for train service and mw personnel are created by the railroad itself and overseen by the FRA. Since the fellow working the air hose is the CEO, if he's not violating an FRA regulation he can pretty much do as he pleases regarding PPE.

@@aaronjarvenpa1743 he's entitled to his opinion. Most rules make sense if you understand the reasons for them. That said, they can sometimes be a pain to follow to the letter.
