Danny! Wonderful to see you. The practice you ( passed on by donation!) gifted us on Railay beach was deep and true. 🙏

thank you for the interview, it is a joy to listen to it, it puts a light on the hippie tradition of the western yoga, which is different from for ex. yoga traditions of the continental europe, i met danny in 2007 in prague and you recently in sofia, i would question the notion of the ashtanga serries/sequences being passed on pattabhi jois by krishnamacharya, as it is obvious from the famous film footages i think from 1938, that the sequences differed or even the postures - or the way they were getting to the postures could be diffrent (for ex. setu bandhasana), there is also no support for it in the books by krishnamacharya, the serries seem to be an invention by pattabhi jois-of his own research of the asana practise, which was made central to the yoga practice by krishnamacharya. i also think it would be beneficial to ask danny directly what he meant when he repeatedly said that pattbhi jois was too intimate with female practitioners during his stays in hawaii. the notion of shamanism is very inspirational, however it feels to loose to state yoga was invented by mayan or egyptian cultures before it got to india - it feels like a pure brain storming, it cuts yoga from deeply evolved indian spiritual and philosofical traditions

Great comment. I think it is interesting to look at yogas evolution as it was taken on and really fertilised by the hippies. As for the sequences being pretty much Jois - agreed. I’m sure I mentioned this kind of thing in the workshop in Sofia? Regarding the use of ‘intimate’ , I think that was Danny obviously not wanting to go further into it. But, let’s be clear, he left Jois’ instruction after 19&0. On the shamanism, I do agree , but it’s also something he wanted to do a whole podcast on to be fair - which we may do! 🙏

@@keenonyoga thanks for your reply, regarding the intimate, it seems to me a very british (which has been my second nationality for a couple of years now) or american reaction, i still think it should be discussed more directly - did he mean he was too intimate during the classes(when he was teaching) or outside the classes and what exactly was happening then. it is even more important now to clarify these questions, for ex. my first czech ashtanga yoga teacher told us in 2006 in prague that during his stay(which he liked a lot) at the bns iengar yoga centre in mysore in the late 90's, a male teacher of some afternoon seminars (not bns iengar when teaching mysore classes), was touching genitals of the practitioners, which was shocking for europeans but he also added that there was nothing erotical or sexual about it, also when you read for ex. the book roots of yoga, you find out that anus, vagina, penis are being mentioned repeatedly in numerous yoga texts, basically it can be another example how indian traditions can differ hugely from the western traditions

@@maryhilllockdowns6770 what Danny meant is that PJ was inappropriately touching. No two ways about it. You do raise an argument here that I’ve heard before of course but don’t give much credence to in the modern context . I mean, we are not enlisting in Tantra here with a 1:1 guru, we are doing yoga asana in a modern way , which is then governed by a clear context of *social* interaction which Jois would have been more than aware of - I mean, look at the way that men and women relate in India !
