Magnificent. But it's sad to consider that humans even in ancient times held such violent views towards nature. I understand the state's need to emphasize civilization's primacy over the wilderness, but it's just so damn gruesome. Seems like we're still acting out that gross opposition today : (

I’ve seen this wall in person. I’m in disbelief this sculpture is made like 3,000 years ago. It’s very vivid, almost like watching a movie. I’m in awe. It made me hate the ISIS more for bulldozing the city of Nimrud. Irreplaceable archaeological structures have been destroyed by the ISIS with their stupidity.

Hmm reminds me of the Bull Traditions where they are allowed to run in the street and the people try to out run the Bull. I wonder if that is what the people are running from and that's the chaos of the sport. Same with the inner Bull Arena of taunting the bull in their case it was a lion. I bet the games are very similar

I enjoyed seeing all that detail. I have seen this in person, but the photos allow closeups. I understand the purpose was to show the power of the king, but I can't help thinking the really courageous people were the ones who captured the lions!
