Dating websites have revealed that Asian men have the most difficult time out of anyone. They’ve revealed that Asian men will get the least responses and often no responses. There are many stats to back this up. I’ve seen profiles that straight up say “no Asians”. It happens. People won’t admit it but they don’t want to seem racist. But I don’t think you’re racist. It’s years of social conditioning. Asian men are rarely portrayed as romantic leads or desirable in media and representation in media is honestly the key factor. You grew up leading to think Asian men are weak, passive, etc. I find that when a non-Asian woman or a white woman tells me they like me, they are always into some form of Asian content. K-Pop, Asian films, anime, etc. because they are watching content with Asian men being represented as desirable. It’s just good to talk about these things. If this doesn’t pertain to you, and you have no idea what it’s like, just understand that you can’t relate to everything but let’s not act like racial bias isn’t a thing. Asian men and black women will fight you to death on that.

Okay, but what has he done except stating the obvious? Instead of just embarrassing that poor dude in front of hundreds of white classmates, he should be spending more time teaching them about WHERE these stereotypes and racist ideas against Asian men come from. Your anger against Asian women is therefore misplaced because they are just as much impacted by the racist culture in America, and it’s not their fault that they’ve internalized negative stereotypes about Asian men. The reason no one except Asian men and few scholars like him are defending Asian men agaisnt these harmful stereotypes is because nobody’s been properly educated about the long pervasive history of racial discrimination against Asian men in America. So if that professor really wants his students to challenge their subconsciously embedded racial stereotypes against Asian men, he should spend more time teaching them facts and history of deliberate, targeted campaign of White America against Asian men for the past century and a half.

But at some point after middle school I start to find out people would treat me differently in a very subtle way, I can't tell exactly but I am very sure it's there. Kanye and Kim are just a tabloid mess and I hope the best for them but I don’t think there is a mass of people trying to relate them to real life. Middle eastern men? @Spirits Gods Actually it is not because of the racism. Asian people prefer whiter skin is for the upper-class feature. In the ancient aisan countries, the rich people/the owner of land do not need to do planting works under the sunlight which make one's skin darker. So the white skin equals rich, the fatty body as well. But recent years, the thought of people changes rapidly, aesthetic ideas are also diversified. One thing will never change, that is we all prefer rich and powerful people.
@Suite_annamite

Because people don't even know true definition of racism.. we end up worsening the problem. It's not about preferring certain features for sex.. but it's about systemic disadvantage due to your skin color. That's why just because you love chinese food and have dated asians.. it doesn't mean you are part of the solution. Shallow diversity is the forte of international bodies where whites always become the leaders(Hollywood's the perfect example) and that's why not knowing what racism is about only worsens the problem. It's about socio economic control and giving opportunities to people equally qualified. That preference for whiter skin has not been proven to be socioeconomic factors in Asia. Plus your group has to have power over the other group to be accused of racist. Asians may have gotten richer but still the world is euro centric, led by whites. So by definition, Asians cannot be racists in a global scale.

@terrance martins Gaslighting the situation does not make you right. You know about a subreddit group so more than likely, you know the situation and want to pretend it doesnt exist. Hyprsexualization exists for Asian women from white men and it's a fact. In circles of men, there are stereotypes expected of every race's girls and Asian women are described as the most "easy". You yourself wanted to describe white women not womanly anymore but Asian women are more feminine. When you bring up victim mentality, you mentioned earlier for Asian people to just keep their heads down and focus on being successful. I had a suspicion that you had no solution and just wanted Asian people not to notice this
@weirdandtrue4441
5 жыл бұрын
@terrance martins wrong again. You were the one to bring up the subreddit group and to say they are completely wrong proves my point: you don't want Asian men to succeed but to chase after a hopeless situation. Also, if you want to pretend the stereotype brought upon Asian women that they are easy for white men doesn't exist, be my guest. But looking at statistics of wmaf coupling and outside race dating, you're wrong. Along with self hating statements on profiles, white men purposely preying on them, European men going east to try to find a wife because they love to fetishize them, you're wrong again. You never addressed and instead tried to deflect and compare them to white women. Fact of the matter is, yellow fever exists and white men possess it. Asian women being considered easy for foreigners is actually one of the reasons why they want to be english teachers there. Again, you're not saying anything special. Obviously Asian men have to add value to themselves through social means. But you have the audacity to say in the same breath that Asian women arent hypersexualized and accuse Asians of having victim mentality. You're basically doing this: "Yeah, you guys are discriminated but don't do anything lol don't want you to get angry. Don't mind me, I'll go after Asian girls but you guys shouldn't go after white girls lol." You're not offering solutions, you're part of the problem and you want to limit options for Asian men. Stop pretending to be concerned and own up to your lack of sense.

@terrance martins If you're not from here, why the heck did you think you had any authority on this subject? And I really like how you keep devolving my response as being "bitter" to dismiss it. You trying to praise asians and saying we can take discrimination does not help our situation, it makes it worse. I really don't think you understand this situation and you're just saying this to appear above SJW's but at the end of the day, pointing out what is wrong is just as effective as working on yourself. You continuously labeling it as complaining is an example of someone that doesn't understand the situation but thinks he can carry weight into it. Asian women are labeled easy and the historical context does not suddenly dismiss what I said earlier. How does giving me a small lecture on war crimes disprove what I said? My current partner's friends say I'm reasonably good looking, and I was in very good physical shape, so I had done all I could to make myself as appealing as I could. I'm even half asian, so I have some european characteristics to my appearance. Going through school was fine to socialise, and I'd even overhear some of my parents friends tell them that I was rather good looking. But when it comes to dating none of that matters. Being an asian male in the western world trying to date you may as well have a physical disfiguring impairment.

My guess is that it is America in particular - we can't discount the huge effect that the media has on perception of attractiveness (e.g. the strong bias toward blondeness within white women - but in the black-and-white Hollywood days, it was a strong bias for red hair) - and groupthink (including attractiveness perception) is a powerful force. One can only do the best one can with what one has, but it does suck for Asian men to get that "look of disgust" (like, "eww, nerd") just when meeting someone (without any intentions of romance or the like). This "eww" response generally is a sign of a bigger problem, but it's ingrained - I would say that attraction is "hardwired" by a certain age. Another problem is that perception is via "groupthink glasses" - e.g. an Asian male may be confident and direct, yet still be thought of as meek and passive - due to bias from groupthink. Perhaps one strategy could be to just go overboard and act like a blowhard?

Statistically, Asians are most educated and earn the most compared to other races... on the flip side Asians have very high standards when picking a mate... would they date someone who is not in the same earning level and education level as they are? The Chinese were in America since the early 1800s, which is almost 200 years ago. The reason why 74% of Asians are foreign born and I use Chinese in particular, is because of various laws that prevented Chinese from immigrating to America. Since 1880 to 1965, Chinese were nearly banded from immigrating to America, that is almost a century of exclusion. No other race in America had laws specifically preventing them from immigration. Businesses were stolen from the Chinese and families were destroyed as a result of multiple laws that were enacted against the Chinese. Chinese men already in America cannot bring their wife and children to America and they cannot by law, marry a white woman. According to the census, there were over a hundred thousand Chinese Americans in 1880, the Chinese was the only race in America to have decreased over time.

I see a lot of comments here by Asian men who seem to be getting the short end of the stick in the dating scene. While I agree that Asian men are generally emasculated here in America, part of the problem has to do with how we, Asian men, value ourselves. A lot of us seem to base our worth on who we attract or can't attract, and that shouldn't be the case. It's okay if a woman (Asian or non-Asian) doesn't find you attractive. You can't be everyone's cup of tea. What matters is that you're confident enough to shoot your shot, regardless of the preconceived notions people might have of you. Almost all of the women I've dated have been Latinas (Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, etc.), and most, if not all, of them have said that I was the first Asian guy they dated. They all had stereotypes of me when we first met but later came to accept me for who I am. In short, it's really up to you to prove to them that you're more than what people say you are. Emasculation is very real, but so is low self-esteem.

I don't care if I need to try harder than the next "non asian" guy. In the end, I will be the person they will remember for the rest of their lives, if we don't work out. As an East Asian man living in Canada, I can confirm all this. I feel bad for the Asian guy because he's been put on the spotlight but someone had to play that role. The professor is a sociology professor and he is doing his job. Look, it's not rocket science. Somehow us Asians have evolved to look this way. We are the end product of ages of sexual selection WITHIN ASIA, but it doesn't work in the world when we have to compete with white, black, Hispanic men. This is why after 12 years of living in the west, I have concluded that Asian people should not live amongst white or black people in a multicultural society. Women are hard-wired to select a mate who is dominant/alpha. Top of the food chain. Who has a high social standing in any given society. Women are also hard-wired to select a mate with good genes who are likely to produce sons who have the most chance at passing down their gene. It's science and evolution. The strategy Asian men should take is to isolate. Unfortunately, Asian people have moved to the western world due to poverty. Some Asian countries are in shit condition. But focus should be put on how to improve conditions back in Asia.
@fxpxc
Жыл бұрын
@Yeheng Musici sorta get your point. i understand that good-looking can be cultural, meaning Asian men are attractive in their own way. There is a cultural aspect to it and as non-Asian women get more exposed to East Asian stars, they will open their minds to finding (attractive) Asian men attractive. However, there IS also the purely looks aspect as well. This is why white women have no problem fetishizing black men even when black people are still "othered" in the American society. This is because black men have masculine traits. You say that you look like an Afghan warrior. Ok fine. If any East Asian woman rejected you for being too masculine-looking, they are likely to be still influenced by East Asian culture by family or social circle. The ones who are completely westernized will choose you over an East Asian guy any time of the day, because for that girl what it matters is that you don't have the East Asian genes. It's a some kind of a self-hatred, self-rejection thing. But it's also biological. That's what's sad man. These women reject their own genes. They are saying "ok, my genetic heritage sucks. I'm going to surrender my reproductive rights to you, a white or white-passing person because you are superior". That's essentially what it is man.
@chianchen776

I think the thing you said might apply to some extend, still if you look into the incel community a huge chunk of them are white, there’s a chance it’s more of a common experience. You have a model and it works in North America maybe, in the part of west I lived there wasn’t such problem almost at all. Or maybe I was a bit delusional. Just please don’t be pessimistic, it’s all generalizations, there’re a lot of individual differences. It’s also a thing I want to say that, our society treats men whining very harshly these days, so even though we might be suffering, it’s our responsibility (as Asian men) to resolve it. It’s not going to change no matter how much we raise the voice, it might back fire even. I’m kind of surprised you’d say there’re shit places in Asia, it might again be an exaggeration, it’s worth thinking that you’ll have a higher advantage of dating in your natural territory. There would be women that are supremely better there, with higher education and more interesting lives (time has changed!) than in “the west” I believe, who will love you deeply and have similar values.

Dang, the professor should set up a situation to have these two guys ask same sample size of woman out on a date and see how many woman actually shows up.

That's a good experiment. And I would like to add an additional parameter to this, like let's say, they both are earning the same amount in salary. I want to see if women would go on a date with the asian or white guy (although I'm more incline to say the latter)

As an East Asian person, that "handsome Asian guy" is definitely not the handsome one, he's not even at average. just pick a random Asian guy, for example: the Asian guy behind the blond girl at 4:00 is much more good-looking than him. No hatting, just spitting fact, I'm sorry that I have to say this, why the heck did they pick him as a representation of handsome Asian, that make no sense.

As an Asian, I agree that the professor is somewhat telling the truth. Do you know that the very first Hollywood sex symbol was an Asian guy named Sessue Hayakawa. He was one the biggest reason why western media was beginning and trying to demasculizing the Asian men. He was like the richest actor in Hollywood and he has dated with several hot white actresses. Lots of white American guys had huge insecurities toward him.
