Historically lions live in dry open plains and grasslands which is only found in Western parts of India only as the other parts r dense forests. Kuno national park is found to be suitable for them as the environment has some touches of africa's dry plains where lions actually live so that place will definitely be good for Indian lions to flourish better.

Mahabat Khan banned hunting in 1889 Tribal community like Rojamdar and Maladhari protected lions from hunting Govt. of India protects lion 🦁 under schedule 1 of Wildlife protection Act 1972 Currently there are more than 600 Asiatic lions in India in which some of them are being shifted from Gir to Kuno National park Madhyapradesh.

Asiatic Lions were never small as they are today. In the past Asiatic Lions were as large as African Lions. And the Lions of those times had large manes, including a belly mane the skin fold in their belly is the trait of that belly mane, they could reach 500 LBS in weight. Only when 12 Lions were only left and they didn't have a big area to evolve they became smaller. Another factor is that those 12 living lions in the late 19th century were basically siblings which later caused inbreeding and hence they lost their beautiful mane and large size. If u search past India history then see that the Lions depicted had large manes and were considered a symbol. But now, it isn't
