Thanks for the review! This change is making me nervous. When certain other companies made a similar type of change to their flagship stability shoes they became lighter bricks. Light isn't always better and we relied on the Kayano to be a consistent high performer, albeit we're not racing marathons in it anymore. I'll replace my 27's with 28's until I see how other high mileage #bigbonedflatfootedrunner 's feel about it.

I had the 28's for the past 14 months. I recently just ordered the new 29's assuming they were the same shoe, just better. They made some changes I did not like at all. I need more of the medial support on my right while my left is pretty normal. The addition of more of the FF Blast + on the insole made me feel like, on my left foot especially, that I couldnt push through my big toe at all when going through my gait. It also did not like them taking away that middle piece, I think it took away some of the stability of the shoe. Overall I do not like the changes they;ve made and hope they return to the 28 style for the 30

One on my initial thoughts and the second review on the Kayano 30s 100 kms in..... BIG BIG change coming.... I do trust Asics are doing the right thing.... My biggest concern is there will be traditional Kayano's customers potentially fall out of the love with the shoe. I personally really like the way the new Kayano 30s run... But there is going to be those who don't. Thats the trade off with change. Happy Running.

I saw them at the store and was surprised that they just had a foam sole without any added structure for stability. Looks promising, I think saucony have raised the stability game with the tempus though and think ASICS need a lighter weight stability shoe to match it! Maybe the kayano lite 3?
@SportitudeAus
2 жыл бұрын
Hey Scott, 100%.... The Tempus is a nice shoe. However I feel the Tempus competes more for market share with the Kayano Lite 3. There needs to be an end point with weight reduction on supportive shoes. I feel there can't bee too much more brands can sacrifice in weight and keep shoes supportive and semi durable at the same time. There are still runners getting 1,000 kms from their mileage shoes, but the vast majority are turning them over quicker. Comfort and performance over durability its seems the messaging is. Thanks for watching. Have you ran the Tempus? Thoughts? Josh

@@SportitudeAus Yes good point, wasnt very impressed by the look of the kayano lite 2 but hopefully the 3 with ffblast plus might be a contender! Running in the tempus as my daily trainer atm and love it, not so much for the light weight but the energy return from the core of pb+ foam (durability may be an issue long term but so far so good). Kayano 29 looks like it would be a decent everyday trainer but considering the tempus covers my stability needs I imagine the kayano may be overkill. I am keen to try out the glideride 3 when that releases because if it is "stable neutral" it might be another good option for the mild-pronators out there.. Overall though cant beat asics for comfort and it does look super comfy! (GT 2000s are my walking shoes XD)

Hi Joseph, Its been a busy year to say the least. But I am glad to back doing what I love. To answer for your question... Yes there is. I think the team at Asics have absolutely nailed the forefoot design of the Kayano 29. Removing the twist GEL gave them more flexibility as a design and engineering team to focus on the exit through more propulsive (rocker) design. I really like the feel of this shoe on release. Nothing has really changed on entry for me. It feels like a Kayano, but the whole transition is smoother now with the improved forefoot midsole componentry. Hope you are well. Happy Running, Josh

For me I Always opt for comfort and performance when offering shoes to clients and customers. In the case between 28 and 29, the outcome would be more around what have you used previously (doesn’t matter if other brands) - your likes and dislikes with that running shoe, then guide you in the right direction. At times the cheaper (off price) shoe is best. Performance and engineering meets the needs of the runner so it can be a win win. Side by side, if priced exactly the same I’d be running the 29. Lighter (not that this is the be all and end all) but the execution of the midsole is on point. Cushioned & smoother. Example of when I liked the old model. I preferred the 24 over the 25. Hope this helps. Josh

GT2000 is a much lower stack height and I found to be quite a firm ride, from my understanding kayano should be a fair bit softer and heavier. I've never run in the lights but I think the 2s were also firm so similar to GT2000 but with slightly more stack height, 3s get released the end of this year and hopefully with new ffblast foam which should be a bouncier ride.

With your heel blisters on the 28, was it on the back of the heel or the side? Up high or down low? I'm asking as I did 3 runs in my new 28's and had no issues, but then after the 4th run I took the shoes off, changed into different socks, walked around the shopping center for a bit and then started to get a blister on my left heel side wall down low where the sock liner meets the sole. It's since recovered and I seem to be able to manage it by using the runners heel lock lacing, making sure to use the top eyelet and really tighten it down to the point of being uncomfortable for the first few minutes of running. But I'm still concerned as the heel does feel a bit unusually firm and tight on the 28. US 12 / 4E.

I dont know what they did with 29. I still run with 27, recently purches 29 and had to sell them. both same size and 29 are too small for me, got blisters, burning foot, pain under fingers...maybe you can explain this?
@SportitudeAus
Жыл бұрын
Hi Tvrle, Thanks for watching and sending through your thoughts on K-29. Considering you had a great run with K-27 and the issues you have encountered. My thoughts are the shoe width/volume did change slightly with the knitted upper in the K-29, Asics brought the volume in which potentially has caused you some discomfort. On top of that the other significant difference is the softness. Your K-29 has a softer foam under foot, thus it could have potentially increased your ground contact time, through sinking into the midsole more.... which in turn can increase friction, which potentially caused the burning and blisters. It can be very frustrating when you have a great experience with one shoe and then transition into the next iteration or version and the outcome is polar opposite. My suggestion would be trial the following two shoes. Brooks Glycerin GTS 21 or New Balance 860v13 (not the version 12). I hope you can get yourself a comfortable shoe so you can enjoy the freedom of movement through walking and running!!

Why do I feel the heel support is going off in the versions above Kayano 27 ??
@SportitudeAus
2 жыл бұрын
Harish, Thanks for watching and putting up your comments. Brands are getting a little more creative with how they are executing the support. If we look at the Dynamic Duomax from the K-27 and compare side by side to the K-29, then yes you are right. Softer density, covering less of the medial side. However Asics altering the stack, compression of the midsole on entry in conjunction with the outsole configuration the K-29 runs very similar in overall performance to K-27. If we are looking at pronation support as the key objective. I feel brands are addressing what is classified as support for overpronators. Years gone by, its was about reducing the total range of movement, hence the heavy bulky support stacked on the medial side. But now its seems brands are more focused on controlling the speed of pronation. This is measured through degrees per second, how quickly the foot goes from its entry to max pronation point. If the total degrees increases by 3-5 degrees, but the velocity decreases by 150+ degrees per second, then its seems brands are measuring the velocity more so as the key performance improver. Brands are competing with themselves before they compete with other brands. Looking at ways to improve their shoes from one season to the next. Do they always get it right.... No. Best example of this was the Asics Gel Nimbus 21.... This shoe was OK, but majority of runners did not like the shoes overall performance. Asics hurried up production on 22 to redeem themselves. But in the case of looking at the Kayano 29, we need to know what the brand is trying to achieve. They want Asics Kayano wearers in their shoes and meet the expectation of their customers, but at the same time brining new runners to their brand. Its an interesting state of play at the moment. Shoe performance is so widely discussed and debated. I am sure there will be some Kayano runners who dont like the new one, but at the same time I feel there will be more that do. Happy Running, Josh
