I remember when this channel popped up on my feed a couple of months ago. It was brand new and only had a few hundred subscribers. You guys are doing great work and tbe explosion in growth proves you both know exactly what you're doing and that your efforts and intentions are rightly guided and blessed. This is a great resource for everyone within and without the Orthodox world, and it's easily accessible. Thanks for making all this high quality content for us and for doing it so quickly.

I often skip the worship part of protestant church, but my pastor is an excellent teacher of the Bible. I've never understood Catholicism bc I wasn't getting fed with the Word. It could have simply been the specific parish i visited. Maybe others are different. I'm interested in Orthodoxy for the more conservative ideals, but have no idea what a service would be like. I plan to check out a few once moved to Oklahoma City.

Next week is the Holy Week. It's very sacramental in any case and quite overwhelming especially if you find a little church in the countryside with no much congregation far from a city and under the light of the candles. After the Great Lent (actually 7*7-1=48) on Sunday it is great to taste the lamb - it depends on the customs of course - and it is worth making this corporal effort less or more. Happy Easter to all Christians.

All answers please welcome. I noticed he is wearing a rosary looking cross. My question, is a regular rosary acceptable to wear for orthodox? The curiosity steams from owning a very simple basic rosary, and would like to know if it is idol worship or acceptable. Please end my ignorance.

This Priest is not wearing a rosary. Orthodox do not pray the rosary.
@cjschweisthal3830
5 ай бұрын
If you are talking about the necklace then that’s a pectoral cross that you will often see priests or monks wearing. If you are talking abt the blue one in his hand then that’s a prayer rope. The Orthodox Church typically forbids the practice of the rosary as it uses the imagination which is forbidden. You can probably find some good answers online but you should talk to a priest in person. The best advice is to get to church and ask the priest or those around you in coffee hour. I’m only an inquirer so take my opinion with a grain of salt and if anyone knows better than me, please correct me. God bless you

How do I know for sure which Leadership of the body of Christ is aligned absolutely with Christ, his words and the teachings of the Apostles. How do I know when religious leaders are aligning themselves with things in opposition to Christ and his teachings? In these perilous times, there are many that have arisen to pervert the gospel of Christ...how can I know the leaders of The Greek Orthodox Church have the foundation built on the rock who is Christ?

Best would be to find, either online or in your parish, Church calendar that contains info about the type of the fasting for each calendar day. Observe fasting days from midnight to midnight... no need to observe evening beginning.. Cheers.!
@senorsiro3748

Your parish priest will be the one to determine when and how much you should fast to start with. Unlike Muslim fasting, it is usually not total abstention from sunrise to sunset, but rather avoidance of *certain* foods for a whole calendar day (or series thereof, for the longer fasts). This isn’t even an ask any old priest question, it’s an ask *your* priest question, and if you don’t have one, finding one is probably higher priority than fasting.
@christinah128

reach out to your most local OC church or cathedral and start catechesis. This should be covered or you can ask questions. Fasting is much more than just diet and most spiritual Fathers and Members recommend to take things slowly - especially if you do not have a High Church experience in your previous experience.

@@RootsofOrthodoxy Im not orthodox but probably soon to be, I have a question how do i fast the right way on Wednesday&Fridays? Andhow long til the Sun goes down and it gers dark outside?
@@Kuzumeayate This is something to discuss with a parish priest. Otherwise, we have writings called the Typikon which go into detail of the *ideal* fasting schedule. But every individual is different. A priest can guide you based on your spiritual and physical fitness. Jumping into a monastic lenten fast (we're currently in lent, btw), would be like running a marathon without even having tried on a pair of running shoes before. Typically, the ideal is that we're completely vegan on Wednesday and Friday unless there is a feast on those days. No animal products at all, no alcohol, and no oil. Most people don't actually completely abstain from food altogether. But those of us who do choose to wholly abstain will do so until after sunset, when we enjoy a small vegan meal. Kitchari is a good option. Traditionally, we eat bread, some salt, and water. But there is as much diversity in fasting practices as there are people, which is why a spiritual father is necessary. It's also important to note that fasting isn't as much about food as it is prayer, self reflection and control, and many other things. We are attempting to rightly reorient ourselves. The body typically has full control over everything we do. Fasting is an opportunity to put the soul at the helm, just above the mind. And to subject the body to the control of the soul.
