I am 64. Suffering from fractured fibula in 2 places (ankle and above ). X-ray revealed that healing is slow but the doctor told me to walk on a walker putting little pressure on the fractured one. It is almost 12 weeks.

I was in a bad car accident and broke my Talus in 3 places. I was in the hospital for over a month. the first surgeon said he would oerate inthe morning then an hr later they transferred me to another hospital because of my insurance. the next surgeon said he didnt believe iI needed surgery because the bones were still alingned enough or it to heal. I am now at six months and just now beginning to put weight on my ankle but still in a boot. Not full weight and one crutch. I sm doing my own therapy at home because of where i am staying there is no insurance paid physical therapy and it is a 2 hr drive one way. my ankle is barely starting to move. I feel like i might be entering the 2nd stage but it still swells up and gets red when not elevated. it does seem to be getting better but so so slow. is this ok that its staking so long. is there still hope that it will continue to heal so i can function and hike and ride horses again?

Thank you so much for this. I have a spiral fracture in the bottom of the Tibia, a hairline fracture in the joint meeting of the fibula, and a bone chip (Talus) from 9 weeks ago. Anyone reading this - Hold on to the railing even if it's only four stairs! I didn't need surgery but was given the dreaded boot and crutches to move around with and told to remain off of it as much as possible and keep it elevated. A couple of days ago I slowly and very cautiously attempted to point my toes and my ankle has a "locking point" so I couldn't even try to point my toes as I used to. It wasn't due to pain which I had prepared for because at any hint I was immediately going to stop; it simply wouldn't move. It was alarming. I mean very scary (!!) and I went into kind of a panic thinking I'm going to be limping when I do walk forever and never run again. Finding your videos helped me to understand with time and effort I can regain my flexibility and strength in my able again. Really I can not thank you enough for Hope. I'm truly grateful! ❤️
