It"s my favourite book. When you read the very end and look at the title of the book and it all hits, damn.

Huh that's crazy... this thumbnail came up and I saw McKay's and I thought "Naaaah, couldn't be"... but it is! I'm in Knoxville, lived here most my life.

Is this the first Fante novel you've read? ATD was my second after the prequel Wait Untill Spring, Bandini. There are four books about Arturo Bandini and they are great reads. The Brotherhood of the Grape is another worthwhile Fante novel. His short stories are as good as the novels! As you may have guessed, Fante is one of my heroes! You mentioned an interest in fiction with a "Los Angeles." Try Raymond Chandler and Eve Babitz! Babitz caught the native's view of LA, especially in her novel Eve's Hollywood.

I already love Chandler. I will immediately look for an Eve Babitz novel!

I’m glad you had fun reading it. It really gives you a lot for your money, I think. Good little poems, phrases, scenes, characters, not to mention the bigger picture, which seems to hold up

@@leafyconcern Definitely! I wish there were more pages, I want to know what happened to Camilla and the dog. No blank words, no filler, this is one of those books...I want to cry, drink and scream like a toddler, all at once.
