Pastor Matt, Pastor Andrew, and one of our elders, Randy, sit down to talk about the following questions:
What was the knowledge of good and evil in the garden? Looking at the context of the word "good" from the previous passages, I don't think He means morality or the knowledge of right and wrong, but the context of God calling His creation "good." If they were purely innocent, with no knowledge of right and wrong, why would God condemn them for disobeying? It would be like punishing an infant. I'm stuck on the thought of what makes nature/existence good, how we would define it in this context, and what its antonym would be.
In Genesis 6, the watchers or angels had children with earthly women, who were giants or Nephilim. After this, God destroyed the earth. How did giants come to be after the flood - was it through the line of Shem, or did they just die? And, if the Nephilim did die, did they become demons?
2 Corinthians 12:7: "A thorn in the flesh." And later, it says, "A messenger of Satan to harass me." Are there any other places in Scripture where the term messenger doesn't refer to either a King's human messenger or an Angel or Demonic Angel?
What can you tell us about the Amplified Bible (AMP) version of the Bible?
If marriage is between one man and one woman, why do men throughout the Old Testament have many wives and concubines?
Why is the result of David committing adultery with Bathsheba that the nation of Israel carries on through their child Solomon?
Who is one of your spiritual role models? Why?
When interpreting the Bible, what weight should be given to the cultural context? Do you think that the appropriate weight is given when MV is interpreting verses about the roles between men and women?
If women are not to be leaders in the church, how do you explain God's plans for the Judge Deborah, who had a position of authority?
Is it possible for someone to seek out the Lord but they are not predestined? Another asks, "Are all called to follow Christ, or only the elect?"
Is Calvinism biblical?
What was the next generation after Jesus and His people? When was it?
Does speaking in tongues still happen today?
I believe in miracles, as one happened with my mother, but how do they work if God has a plan and everything happens according to his will?
