Mechanic typically make around 40k - 60k/year at dealerships unless there a master tech in which case they are making around 70k - 90k. Depending on the volume of the dealer for example mine saleman make on average 120k - 150k. Our top sales guy is making 250k. When you get into finance manager, sales manager and GM it just goes up more from there. If you actually listened to the mechanic he did have a car payment but he paid it off. The only reason why he doesn’t have a better looking car is due to the fact that he can’t afford the payments whereas the other positions can and probably still put away more in savings than him. 1k a month car payment is 5% of their income so they can clearly still stack a lot of savings. Vs a mechanic with a car payment of $350/month is 8% of his income.

Yes! So glad to see comments like this on a video about car payments (stupidly high car payments). There's only one correct answer here "$0/month". If you can't afford to pay cash for a car, then you can't afford to buy it (unless you love your job and would work for free).

The mindset that it’s ok to have a car payment or any kind of debt is exactly why our default on loans is at an all time high. I’m 27 got lucky with a good career after the military and currently have over $100,000 in ETFs and IRA. I get more happy looking at the number going up rather than paying a monthly payment to impress people I don’t even like.
