I just found your videos! Thanks for posting. One thing that I really wish could be changed are the ads. I want to use your videos with the class that I interpret in. I can’t do that without monitoring closely, because one ad that keeps coming up in some of your videos is a scene with a girl seducing her friend’s fiancé the night before his wedding, while his fiancé is watching! It’s vulgar and explicit. Why do they have to put that kind of add on videos that children may watch? Disgusting!

@@shaygashler1586 I'm probably not able to help you personally, but I can say this grammar point came to me easily with my background in studying Japanese. There are many entry-level videos that go over the topic/subject marker sentence structure in Japanese that might be able to explain this grammar point, albeit in a different context. This was very informative on structure and I think that is what a lot of hearing signers are missing. The only thing I would recommend in the future is during the quiz at the end, to say out loud or on the screen what you signed because a couple of those words I am not familiar with which makes it harder to figure out what the structure is if I don't know what you're saying.

This was very helpful. I would love to see more videos on sentence structure in ASL. Very few people discuss it. Also, I have a question. I teach English grammar, so I'm trying to understand ASL grammar in typical grammar terms. I've noticed that the direct object usually goes first as the Topic in an ASL sentence unless the sentence is very short, in which case there seem to be some exceptions. Also, if there is a predicate adjective, such as in "My son is hungry," then you sign it in the same order that English would use. But using the generic word "Topic" in "Topic-Comment", as all ASL videos seem to do, leads to some confusion. In the sentence "I sleep in on weekends," I wouldn't have chosen "weekend" as the topic because it is the object of a preposition in an adverbial prepositional phrase. Why was "weekend" chosen as the topic? Do all adverbial phrases/words go first? Okay, so fine, I have two questions. Would you say in ASL "Green car I own" or "car green I own?" Thank you for your time and responses!

The way I figure it out if I'm not sure is what question are you answering. If I say "I sleep in on weekends", usually I'm explaining what I like to do on the weekends. Which would make that the topic. There are rules, like someone else pointed out that time-related words tend to go first. But I don't really like memorizing rules as a way to learn a language.

For example... 1. For if the third-person is a person: *"Jessica missed the picnic because she had to see the doctor."* 2. And if not: *"An egg is not an ellipse because one of the opposite ends is smaller than the other."*
