Dear Lloyd, I hope that you have a moment to read this, because it is wonderful that we, as members of our present global society, are able to communicate with one another in this way. It's what's good about the Internet. This is a message of gratitude and appreciation for what you do. Old School ASMR here... back when the now defunct website "Soothe Tube" was where we found that all of our weird personal playlists belonged to a much larger revelation that we all belonged to. I consider myself a strictly orthodox Unintentionalist, and take great pride that it was I who personally gave Dr. James Kelly and Pat LaFontaine's Cranial Exam video it's exact 1millionth view (I sure wish that Brainline would re-enable the comments on that pioneer video...they are probably way flummoxed and weirded out by the whole phenomenon of that one video's bizarre path of ascension to legend). I have two favorite and effective Intentionalists, and you are one of them, Lloyd! I hope that you can take this as a sincere compliment, but when I first happened upon your videos I though "Man, this guy is really goofy!", and I watched portions of your vids for entertainment purposes, more like a hater than a fan. But as your repertoire expanded, and your technique and presentation explored and refined themselves, you developed something very potent along the way: A Voice! And I don't mean an aesthetic voice (although you have obviously honed that as well), I mean that you developed a distinctive, signature style that is yours, and yours alone. It's like when you hear Kurt Cobain, or Bob Dylan, or Neil Young sing, you know instantly who it is. It can be messy and raw at times, but that is a part of what gives that voice it's potency, it's Soul, because it isn't daunted by trying to sound like a perfect copy. It is relentlessly committed to sounding like itself. Influenced? Of course, like everything that is nourished by inspiration is. But, your style is distinctive, because you are not a copy. You have Soul, my man! And with soul, one usually finds Heart in abundance as well. I have gone from soft hater to true appreciator of your playful, exquisitely analog approach to entertaining while delivering us the very palatable goods. Your tingles are not overly salted with absurd amounts of tapping, crinkling, and implausible lip smacking and just plain annoying indulgence of saccrine speech patterns. If your asmr was expressed as guitar playing, you would not be a flashy shredder running up and down the neck with blazing fast scales on fire but not related to a memorable melody. You would be more like a tasteful phraser, who makes sure to serve a memorable song in a way that we can all just relax and sing along to, in the harmony of our own joyful and unique voices. Idea for you: Maybe you could do a Therapist role-play helping someone understand what ASMR is because they think that they are crazy for obsessively watching videos of people with soothing voices repair pocket watches or something like that? Thank you, Lloyd. And, Happy Birthday...whenever that happens to be for you.
