nice, love the idea of putting a modern 1x on it, as one of the worst things about actually riding these old bikes is futzing with the triple rings up front...such a pain to just get the right gear. I picked up a 1992 Diamondback Response (like the apex but with a suspension fork) all original even the rotted out panaracer smoke tires!!! Marzocchi fork just appears to need new seals. amazing shape, can't wait to restore it. Kicker is it was a yard find - front yard "free" sign on it...just a random find while out for a ride - snagged it and had a big ass grin on my face all the way home.

Thanks, yes haven’t shifted a triple in quite some time. Enjoy your response, and thanks for watching.

Nice retromod mix of parts. Most of my builds go this way because they’re living their 2nd (maybe 3rd) life as townies any way. I outfitted my yellow Ascent with slicker tires and pink cable housings to sweeten it up for cruising. Just like candy 🍭

I found a lime green 1992 Ascent EX nearby a few dumpsters in a parking lot down the street, unfortunately it had a snapped chainstay tube although I was able to salvage a mint Made in Japan Shimano sealed BB , budget 1X sun tour cranks and a rigid Kona Project 2 straight fork. Funny thing is the bike had a California registration plate that expired in 1995 ….meanwhile I’m way up north in Canada , my oh my if bikes could tell stories.

Did it need much work or was it ready to ride?

@@RideLooseBikes It didn’t need much work but I ended up tearing it al the way down and rebuilding it with almost all new component and I put new tires and a new saddle. I also changed the decals. I still have it but am thinking about getting an older Rockhopper next.

Nice! Yeah I’m itching to do another 80’s or 90’s mountain bike build. So hard to find the right one. Everyone’s building them up, none left to fix!

@@RideLooseBikes is it works perfectly or is there any problem when you ride it in a rough terrain? Chain slap when shifting perhaps? Your answer is appreciated.

Amazing rebuild! How did you manage to restore the original paintwork so we’ll? Did you apply a clear coat to stop rust at all? Love the videos

Ride Loose thanks dude! Yeah I picked up another db ascent but it’s orange 91 and it seems like it’s 27.0 so just checking hahah. I actually put a 26.8 and it has a little give. Been measuring over and over again and basically decided on 27.0. Hope it fits !
