As someone who is over 30, some good advice for younger people is most of the time you’re over thinking the situation/problem, stop thinking about the things you can’t control
@F.M671
11 күн бұрын
Honestly that is almost good generic advice. Except people tend to take things to the extreme and then you end up with "I can't do anything" or people who attempt to control what they can. I've found that people who overthink things paradoxically find comfort that. The same way people think about things they cannot have and daydream rather than chase them.
@GoldenFalcon2

What helped me with anxiety from overthinking was actually the opposite. It was about embracing the anxiety and understanding that my crazy thoughts are going to manifest. So it’s best to deal with them now, instead of simply hoping I can stop thinking about them. Once I learned to embrace all of my thoughts, it was easier to know which ones really mattered and which ones where just my brain trying to protect me.

I resonated with this so much. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for reminding us that a lot of us looks solid from the outside and inside can be just raging turmoil. I especially appreciated what you said about friends and being alone. I am retired on disability with a chronic illness and I like being alone, so between having to make choices about where to put my energy and knowing how unsatisfying a friendship with me can be, it is tough to reach out. It's a very strange feeling to be both isolated and comfortable being alone, but also knowing that you're missing out. And feeling that not just knowing it. Anyway, thank you so much for trusting us with your truths and I look forward to the series of chats you have with other creators talking about this.

Finally, I was able to sit down and listen to this. It takes guts to open up with your audience, you rock! I will ALWAYS remember your life metaphor, that it's a circle. It's such a great way to describe life. It's very reassuring to look at that way. It helps me to beat down my anxiety at times to just remember that life is a circle. Can't wait to see more Asmrtists you bring on to share😁👍

That bag you carry around with the TP is what I call my bathroom kit!!! My wife teased me for having one, where I had everything I needed, should I have a toilet outside. Until she needed it urgently, and thanked me for carrying it around. I'm also over 30 (let's leave it at that), and I can tell you I did have a period way back in my life when I cocooned myself, I did not leave my home until I noticed the emptiness that I felt. So I forced myself to play basketball and started hanging with new/different people, opening myself to new situations, and by chance, that's precisely how I met my wife. I loved this "confession" ASMR.

Hey glow, I just wanted to say in at the 18 minute mark and I found your story to be very relatable so far. Anxiety really is a horrible thing and unfortunately it does have the ability to separate us from the people we care about. The anxiety I experienced as a teenager pushed me away from a lot of my family members and especially my cousins who I was very close with when we were little kids. I just wanted to say that I really think you should reach out to your friend that you see as your big sister. I know it might be hard to reach out but just know you have nothing to lose. And besides, you reaching out to her could mean a lot to her in this very moment. I hope you consider reaching out to her. Take care and have a good one
@GoldenFalcon2

Very well said, Glow seems to want a friend pretty badly, but like many folks are brains try to rationalize a way out of having to do the work, seeking with every fiber of our being to protect us from possible harm. "I prefer to stay at home", "I'm only a listener" are all avoidance behaviors to not have to deal with rejection and anxiety. Or put other people in potentially awkward situations. I hope she makes the effort to reach out to past friends, or make new ones. Because i believe: like most people, she could make someone else's life so much better in a kind caring friendship.

Hey, you're great. If people are unwilling to remain friends with you due to immutable characteristics that you literally can't change, or are unwilling to understand you and show up for you when you show up for them, they're not friends worth having. I relate a lot to much of your shared experiences and your comment about giving yourself grace is spot on. When we're tough on ourselves, it can be a hard lesson, but it's absolutely vital.

A similar sort of anxiety is really common in Japan, it's called Hikicomori which translates to "to withdraw". I like how you suggest exposure therapy. I was deathly afraid of cockaroaches and so I got some as pets. At first looking at them was hard, then I tried holding them with gloves, now I can hold them with bare hands while surprising the desire to scream and vomit. It's been about 5 years since I started and I use this as my success story whenever I get anxiety attacks for other stuff. I actually work as an entomologist now and work with brown ugly bugs. Thanks to my exposure training, I was able to move from handling with gloves to bare hands in just 2 years. For me, learning about what scares me so much really helps in understanding how or why I should or shouldn't be afraid.

Most of my friends have either passed away, are active or recovering alcoholics, are married with families or live far away. I never had that many close/trusted friends to begin with. And I suck at meeting new people. So my life is pretty solitary. For the most part I'm okay with being alone, but there are a lot of things I don't end up doing because I don't want to go on my own. And when I see what other people are doing (Mostly living their "best lives" on social media.) I experience major FOMO for all the life I haven't lived. I guess it sucks, but sometimes that's just the way life is, and worrying too much about it feels like a real waste of time.

thanks glow for a great video, for having the great courage to open up and show your feelings and your less pretty stories, you are a superhero, I loved your way of being practically from the first moment, but the more information I know about you the more surprised I am with how much we are alike (the list is very, very long believe me ha ha ha), I am surprised by the intensity of your anxiety to leave the house and that you are still overcoming it, I hope you continue to improve more and more until you feel completely comfortable, I am also introverted and in the past it worked for me to relate to only one person at a time, when there were more people I felt small, luckily you are not completely alone (you can't imagine how hard it is), I love that you can also put humor in a video like this, it is one of your personality traits that I like the most and I also believe that it is always good to have more sense of at any moment, is the podcast going to be only audio or will there be video too ??? (like other youtubers who do interviews), I say this because of the language and subtitles ha ha ha, I would title it "confessions with glow" (it occurred to me before seeing the title of the video ha ha ha), I had also realized that your good side is the left, but there is little difference, exaggerated ha ha ha, and yes, you are right, I have felt very identified with my favorite asmr artist, because it is you!!! (you may be introverted, but you have a huge and amazing inner world ..... I wish you were my friend ha ha ha) I am looking forward to seeing the second part

Though I already commented, I just wanted to say that what really works for me in terms of beating anxiety is having someone else give me permission to relax. It may seem odd, but just like Glow pointed out, giving ourselves a break is hard. And for me it takes other people saying “good job you can rest now” to really feel like my watch has ended, to quote a TV show. And those are the people I hold most dear in my life, family and friends.
