I’m always impressive by the sheer amount of different animations AC3 has for navigating through different types of geometry, but I’m even more impressed by people who know how to trigger those animations and use them in an advanced parkour sequence. A few of these animations I don’t think I’ve ever seen, and quite a few of your moves were certainly unexpected. Awesome work!

If the mechanics for AC3 had a better area to use them, it would’ve been as great as the Ezio trilogy. Unfortunately, by the time we move to AC4 they seemed to gut the movement in a huge way, and make pursuit basically nonexistent. Unity had the same problem. It’s really annoying that Assassins Creed is a series best defined by “improvement at a cost.” 1 to 2 improves level design, removes vaulting. 2 to Brotherhood improves horses, but makes them the best option for getting around. Revelations adds the hook blade and zip lines, but half the city is divided by a boring, empty river you can either waste time crossing, or fast travel across. 3 improves chases and adds forests but decreases available movement options, removes the subtlety between high provoke and sprint, and is set in the most boring cities the games would ever have. 4 improves ships and area design, but weakens enemy ai and parkour options even more. Rogue was just more Black Flag. Unity has the best looking and most expressive parkour, and the best city AC has ever had, but loses any consistency in movement to allow for more comprehensive understanding of the environment. Syndicate gutted the parkour and gave options you were basically forced to use. And you don’t need me to keep talking, don’t you?
@MagnumSpydyrIN
10 ай бұрын
okay this guys can comment! but yeah you summarized it well. But i have a slighly different opinion on ac2 to ac3. AC3 introduce the "parkour down" mechanic, it also removed certain core depth elements like separate wall-run button and the choice to jump without auto grabbing. Despite this, AC3's expressiveness(like these contextual animations) paved the way for Unity's parkour system. Different opinions enrich the conversation, and it's great to have varied viewpoints.

@@MagnumSpydyrIN it can get very annoying lol A great thing about it is if you hold spint/parkour after parkour down, you land in a superhero-like pose. As long as you hold the button with no direction you stay in the pose. I imagine you already knew this but for anyone who didn't, now you do.

Most players tend to favor controllers due to their precise directional inputs, making the game easier to handle. yeah that make sense. I would say that I have more than a year of experience in that game with a controller and this is impossi ble with it. so what do you do, flick hard to trigger the animations or smth?@@MagnumSpydyrIN

@@_loungin_ well it depends. which animation are you talking about?

the ones where go from a ledge to a wall,@@MagnumSpydyrIN cancel that animation and jump off it to go somewhere

@@_loungin_ Can you put a timestamp? Cause 0:35 is the only place I used the camera to swing from one pole to another. Most other tricks that require camera angle and directional input combos are the quick wallrun ejects at 0:17 and 0:51. If you're talking about the huge camera swing at 0:07, I did it for the flashy cinematic look. That camera swing wasn't necessary (no direction and eject + auto-center camera also does the trick).

most likely the game mistakes the gap between the house and the tree with a gap between 2 windows and triggers that animation.

Don't worry! You can make AC Unity look bug-free, but you'll need to invest quite a bit of time to make it look smooth.

both the Kenway and Ezio saga has their own strengths and weaknesses. Ezio Series has better input consistency and easier cancel frames, the Kenway saga has better animations and contextual moves-sets. But yeah The parkour runs in Kenway saga looks better when done properly.
