its unreal how much better this scene is from the rest of the game. the acting, directing, even their voices sound more realistic, they actually have natural inflation and inflection. the writing is absolutely superb in this scene, and really makes you feel for these characters. the subtle winks, facial changes, and the smile Basim gives Eivor at the end all tell stories of their own. imagine if the whole game was like this one cutscene.

AC: Origins had it like that and it was sooo good. I loved the story, I loved the cutscenes, the raw acting of Bayek and Aya, the mocap.. then Odyssey took it all away. Atleast Kassandra is somewhat charismatic on her own, so she could carry even all the dull dialogue scenes. But female Eivor sadly feels like absolute plank of wood in most of the game, besides from those few mocap scenes. Male Eivor is carried by his unique voice. Honestly I wish Kassandra was the only playable protagonist of Odyssey so that she could have been give more focus in animation department, because she is likeable and as much as I will always prefer playing as a male character in these games, I prefer more when Ubi tells the canon story the best way possible. If Kassandra is canon, then show us her story in the best way you can, don't half-ass it. Same with Eivor, although there I would say that male Eivor overall just works better for the story and era. Kassandra is a mercenary, she can do whatever she wants, but with Vikings, it was more about men being the providers and raiders and women were the food and comfort providers and everyone who thinks of playing a Viking game will probably think of playing a male viking. I dunno, just my two cents here.

Imagine playing Mirage before watching this, knowing that Basim was searching for whoever tormented him in his past life. Then, you finish the first arc in Asgard, wounding Fenrir as Loki shuns Odin for breaking his oath, hurting his son. And then you get here, to the campfire, hearing how Basim’s son was taken from him by a man he trusted, but the Basim you knew never had a son. And that is when you realize… Nehal was Loki. Basim IS Loki. That temple beneath Alamut was his prison, one he was given after Baldur was slain in the mythos. And he was locked away by Odin, the one who took Fenrir away. And living as part of Eivor. Now, these two are sitting right across from each other, blissfully unaware of who the other is, but you know. You know they’re both going to fight. And honestly, I think that makes the confrontation in Yggdrasil even better.

I still feel like this was before he knew she was Odin's reincarnate. He opens up so easily, and he holds no malice nor contempt for her in his eyes. He speaks with deep sadness, rather than a bitterness that would suggest he was trying to stir her memories. But this is simply my interpretation of it. This scene is beautiful yet heartbreaking, because it shows what their friendship could have been if Loki hadn't taken over. I miss Basim.
@noemied.a3422

I do think it was before he knew about her and Odin, yes. Loki was portrayed as having an unbreakable bond with his children, so it would explain how he reacted when Loki "took control" over Basim in the Yggdrasil chamber, upon discovering Eivor being Odin. If he opened up, so easily it means he had no idea, because if he did, he wouldn't have said it like that, but in a more controlled way, and not letting his voice crack or sadness in his tone.

Loki took over his life before the game even began. But Basim was still awake. I could see he was becoming increasingly strange as the game went on though I didn't know what it meant. Loki's mind was slowly leeching what little remained of Basim. One hope of Mirage is that it explains exactly when Loki appeared in the back of Basim's mind. He had no control. He forgot who he was. How did this happen? This did not even happen to weak-minded Sigurd or trauma-ridden Eivor. Was it simply Loki's determination, or was it something about Basim? Maybe Basim himself lost a child, and allowed Loki's consciousness to merge effortlessly. Gah. I hate what they did, but the theory possibilities are so fun. (Loki says straight up at the end that he did not know Eivor was Odin + he thought it was Sigurd.)

I love how despite Basim trying to be sincere, his tricky nature still holds of him because of Loki. When he says "He was taken from me. By someone i trusted. A friend, a mentor. A man who i would trust with anything. But a man you trust with anything... Can take everything" it's actually pretty ironic if you have read the notes Loki leaves around Asgard and Jotunheim, specially the ones in Uthgard casttle. He never told Odin anything about his son. He actually plotted against him and his people by letting the builder enter Asgard along with his army. He took Fenrir to the well and that Almost made Odin kill it. Even when Fenrir got loose and fought him, that almost causes him to kill Loki's blood and break the oath he made. If he would have been honest with Odin he could have avoided all their bad blood, but he didn't. This is why I say I find ironic he says "A man i would trust with anything" when he never had any intention of telling anything to Odin to begin with.

I think though that once Basim goes into the Animus he realizes that Eivor isn't Odin. After exiting the Animus there is a scene where Basim sits down and sees Eivor and the two smile at each other. Dude, Odyssey was full of bullshit but I loved it so much. This game, although is filled with the same bullshit as Odyssey, managed to make it slightly more enjoyable. If only they didn't make you colonise EVERY SINGLE one of the English counties and allowed you to progress through the story more rapidly this game would be an absolute masterpiece. An AC story hasn't resonated with me so deeply since the first game and Brotherhood, and Basim is such an amazing character, he is literally one of the only reasons that I pushed through this game's bullshit because I was so interested and invested in his story and his arc. I was starting to like Layla after what happened in Atlantis and she was okay in this game too, but if Basim becomes the new Modern Age protagonist that'd be fantastic. Lets hope Ubisoft cuts the bullshit padding they put in every single game

I kinda agree with you. If the game is too much of a long haul, that's ok, it won't be everyone's cup of tea. I myself get annoyed at the constant "puzzle-like" treasure hunting to get a small chest not worth the effort. And admittedly the side quest "world events" get a little goofy and sometimes waste my time. But I found that each story arc in each new region was fun and refreshing. Only a couple of them were a little long winded and not that useful to the main plot. This is where I agree with you. Those arcs could have been optional. But I think this is the biggest game that keeps you invested in the character without getting repetitive like other Ubisoft games. I'm still having fun 3 months later and I haven't done that since Black Flag and Syndicate.

Their strategy depends on assassinations and stealth, and they are also a suicide squad ready to fight to the death. Knowing that this is Loki doing all the talking and not Basim, I can already sense the burdensome play that players are gonna experience in Assassins Creed: Mirage where we get attached to OG Basim and go apesh*t when Loki takes over his mind.

Can someone help me out here? I just beat the game (I know it's been a year) but still, I never got this cutscene. It never happened to me during my playthrough and I'm just curious if there is something specific you have to do to trgger it? Thanks🙏

It was during the Cent Arc... Unless you accidentally skipped through it, or the game just mega glitched, it should have automatically happened. After you arrive at the Dane Camp and they all decide to rest for the night, it jumps to this scene. I'm sorry you didn't get to see it though :'(

Female Eivor is the real Eivor. The canon option is "Let the Animus choose", which means you'll play the whole game as female Eivor, and Odin segments with "male Eivor".

@@moatezmoussi9751 I can't disagree completely. My first Valhalla playthrough of Valhalla was with "male Eivor" and it felt pretty legit. But whenever I discovered the canon option, I started a new playthrough with female Eivor and it felt... Different. I don't think it's a bad character per say, but it would be much more interesting if the "male Eivor" was never an option to begin with. Unlike Odyssey for example, where imo, Kassandra was MILES better than Alexios.

@@HCSbr Kassandra felt right because it fits right. female Eivoris just so wrong. it's a reincarnation of Odin for god's sake. i couldn't stand her and switched. and i must say Eivor is so cool
@HCSbr

@@moatezmoussi9751 My guess is they made Odin's reincarnation as a female to be less obvious, especially during those sequences when Eivor meets Odin face to face. My biggest problem with female Eivor is the voice acting, which sounds too forced, and it's weird, because Eivor's voice actor has an amazing voice, and she has the perfect accent for the character, yet, the final result wasn't very impressive.
