Thanks! The wings are pretty easy to remove. You may find that you can stick it in the back in one piece placing it in diagonally if there’s sufficient space.

Could you go with the upgraded motors and keep the three blade props? Or will it over rev with those props
@Thercgeek
5 жыл бұрын
According to Alpha at motion, it’s too much prop. Looks like the upgraded motors ship with 12x8 two blades and the stock prop is a 3 blade 12x7, so it may be worth trying, it I don’t have any experience with it.

Do you have a brand, type of paint that will match the F7F blue for touch ups?
@Thercgeek
5 жыл бұрын
If you take the hatch down to home depot, they should be able to do a paint match on that. Otherwise, I don't know what would be the best color for matching. The color is supposed to be FS35042 which is available in numerous plastic model varieties, but there's no guarantee the will match.

What receiver / radio do you recommend for this ? Also any tips for a newbie ? Thanks !
@Thercgeek
5 жыл бұрын
I'm a big fan of the Spektrum radios personally. I have two Dx18s. Truthfully, any decent 6 channel radio should do the job well on this airplane. If you want to have room to grow on the radio, then I'd recommend a 9 channel. The Dx9 is a good rig. In terms of flying, I'd recommend getting connected with a local RC club to help you get started. They usually have club instructors should be willing to help you get the airplane flying well and setup properly.

Kinda tardy to the party here in RC land....are the props handed on this model or do they both turn the same direction like on the real Tigercat?
@Thercgeek

On the model, they are counter rotating, so you’ll want to double check the direction before you tighten them down fully.

It depends on which way the motors are spinning out of the box. So, double check that and then swap the props if you need to.

Did you try stepping down to a,3000 or 3200. I bet it would give you that feel your looking for. I did the same thing with my FMS P-47 RAZORBACK 1500MM. The 5000 was just to heavy. I stepped down 4000 and it flew like a dream.
@Thercgeek

Could be, but I never tried it. The airplane flew fantastic, but just lacked some vertical was all. Obvioulsy a little lighter airframe would certainly help that. Interestingly, I flew this one recently which was completely refinished (kzitem.info/news/bejne/zGt7tYWwbHiZmI4) and it seemed to fly a bit faster with a little better power than I remembered compared to this one and it was overall heavier because of the paint job.
@DavesRc

Yeah I remember this video. I was,telling you how I thought this plane looked faster than the stock ones I had seen flown. I'm a huge cat fan however the only one I own is the freewing F14 tomcat. I want a bearcat but I want it to be good size. There just isn't one on the market that is going to be good enough for me. At least a 1500 or bigger. Actually 1500mm would be perfect. 4 blade prop. And the landing gear have to be scale like the real bearcat. They folded in half before they retracted up. We should Patton one. I think it would sell. We'd just have to have some molds made and start stamping them out. I have been wanting to start my own foamy company. Just never had a knowledgeable person to start with. So many ideas for planes. Jets too.

Hello again. After the long winter and winds etc, I finally got to maiden my F7F today. Grass field, half flaps good takeoff, flight and landing, but after doing a 180 to taxi back, the nose wheel came off! WTF!?!? That tiny stupid little E clip came off the axle and disappeared into the grass! No room for a wheel collar which EVERYONE had, including me, but no one had a snap on clip. Bummer! All that wait, 115 miles to the field, then to only get one flight due to a dumb 5 cent clip! Not happy!!!

I finally bought one of those mm gauges. I no long have to piss off all the really good pilots, like yourself, on KZitem begging for deflection percentages. I blame the South Carolina public school system. They tried teaching meters, liters, grams etc. for about a week. Then they sent a letter to the parents saying- “This is too GD hard!” But thankfully that gave us more time with “The 3 R’s- Reading, Righting, Rithmetic”

Thanks! 5 minute epoxy should work just fine. Avoid using the supplied urethane glue, I’ve had it soften and swell the foam. For receiver, the spektrum 6 channel should do the job. Flown one with it in there and also a 12 channel which is overkill but what I had at the time.

Mornin Chris, i have a Q, On This F7F i just did the build last nite and i notice when i put the props on and spun them with my fingers the right one had that nice sound spinning and the when i did the left motor spinning the prop i have a gravelly sound loud enough to notice and borther me ,lol,,,when i called motion i was told it could be the magnets are to tight but its ok to fly,so if you could give me your opinon that would be great if you have the time,i just hate to maiden her and something go wrong,,,Thanks so much for your time,Kevin

What does it sounds like? Is it a grinding sound? Or is it just a louder kind of wine than the other side? What I would do is to simulate a flight on the ground to vet out if the motor is going to have a problem or not. What I mean is run both motors and alternate between full throttle and partial throttle in a manner simulating how you would fly the airplane. Do this for about 4 minutes and then see how the motor is holding up and check both motor temps. If the louder one has something rubbing internally, I would expect it would be hotter than the other.
@kaptain-kbird7553
7 жыл бұрын
The sound is hard to explain but in the past on one off my crashed plains and i throttle up its louder like f7f is doing not grinding but like its normal then a gravel sound normal then gavel sound if that make sence, i will do what you said to do and plus i made a video of it too i guess to send to motion cause iam not going to fly her, and thank you again for help your always on the money*****

Hi just finished watching your nice vid. I just got one of these beauties, and am doing assembly. Can't fly til May, probly. 60 miles from Canada and it's snowing. I'm stuck with a couple narrow short grass flying sites. Will be using flaps for landing, but do you know if flaps can be used to help with the takeoffs? Thanks

yeah, flaps can be used for takeoffs too. I recommend getting your elevator mix settings set first before performing a takeoff with flaps just to avoid something unexpected on the first flight.

Watching your vid again. Curious about your wanting to make the rudder move so much to 'desensitize' the nose wheel movement. While trying this on mine, there was a SNAP! up front. The plastic clevis for the nose wheel busted off the cross piece of the clevis. It was 'fun' getting a new clevis in place. Went back to less rudder movement than you seem to want. Too much snow as yet, so no maiden flight for a while. Comment???
@Thercgeek
7 жыл бұрын
I only increased the throw for rudder in the air. I added the expo to desensitize the steering otherwise it's too sensitive on the ground. My apologies for the busted clevis! :( I had increased my throws well beyond what I ultimately settled on without issues. I feel bad that happened to you. :(
@gunnerbenavente5075
7 жыл бұрын
I guess I am just not understanding. The front servo for the steering is going to move when the rudder servo moves. I'm not used to setting up expo or for my planes. Lots of guys do, but I just never seem to understand it.
@Thercgeek
7 жыл бұрын
Right, I'm not a huge expo guy either, but have been using it more lately. What it does is will reduce the sensitivity around the center of the stick. So, in the case of the steering on the tigercat, the two are tied together. I wanted to be able to knife edge the airplane and so needed quite a bit of rudder throw. However, that also increased the nose steering throw. So, to reduce the sensitivity of the ground steering around center to avoid over controlling it on the takeoff, I added exponential on the rudder channel.

Can you program differential thrust for added yaw control? (strong Knife edge ..er'!)
@Thercgeek
7 жыл бұрын
You could if you wanted to by setting it up differentially in the radio, but it's not necessary IMO and it would probably make the knife edge even more difficult. The airplane will knife edge decently with enough speed and rudder throw. If it had just a little more speed to it, it would knife edge a little easier.

You probably need to calibrate the controllers. With the tx on and the throttle at full, plug in the batteries on the aircraft. When you hear the escs beep twice, bring the throttle back to idle and you should hear the escs arm and then they’re calibrated. I would start there and if it doesn’t solve it, you may want to contact motion about the issue.

The propellers actually spin outwards on this one. They're using the same system that is in the flightline RC P-38 which also has the props spinning outwards. On the nacelles, I'm pretty sure they can only go on one way, but when put the nacelles on, the tires should be facing outwards.

You are correct about missing the sound of the P&W engines. Have you considered installing the MrRCSound Aspire system to provide what is the only thing missing from a great model?
@Thercgeek
7 жыл бұрын
I haven't thought about it much for this airplane. There have been a few guys that have installed that system into it though. The few sound systems I've heard in smaller airframes are missing the low end rumble/bass, so don't sound quite right to me. I do have a future project in mind for a sound system, but it'll be large enough to handle what's necessary to get more bass out of it.

A high wing trainer airplane with tricycle landing gear is the ideal place to start. Horizon Hobby has a nice selection of trainer aircraft. Also, if you've not flown before, I highly recommend seeking out a local club and connecting with a fight instructor. They typically have a list of folks and aircraft for teaching folks to fly. It's the best path for success.
