Hi Afzal, just wanted to say thank you for your videos because I recently secured a spring week at Deutsche Bank. This time last year I was completely clueless about spring weeks but due to your videos I learnt that it’s not about what uni (I go Queen Mary) you go to or what you study (I do chemistry) or grades (my A levels aren’t great) but it’s all about the experience and skills that you attain! And those videos ultimately helped me to get an offer from Deutsche Bank, so a big thank you Afzal for what you do!

Hey Mickias, always a pleasure! Congrats on your offer. I also went to QM and didn't have outstanding A level grades. Good luck! 💪🏽💪🏽

I’m a Management consultant - agree with the points. Was also interested in asset management but ended up choosing consulting due to more interesting nature of work.

Management Consultant here - really varied work, and contracts can be a couple of months to a couple of years. An excellent way to grow your portfolio/CV fast with top companies and experience of different tools/Tech/Strategies. The downside is you build great relationships with your team on client side and then have to leave them, additionally you become an expert on their systems and policy and then just forget it all and start from zero on the next client

Great video as always 👍🏻 Can you please make a video on masters programs one can opt for to break into these industries? Like which universities to focus on? Where to draw the line on rankings? If ranking or popularity of a uni or low, is it still worth attending? Stuff like that.. Kindly make a video about it it'll be of great help, thanks

Hi, can you do a video on advice to year 13 students on how they can prepare to apply to spring weeks. I'm unsure on what's relevant for a CV since I am in Y13 and have done so little

Hey Afzal, I’m a school leaver and have seen an apprenticeship in management consulting. However it’s not in a typical consulting firm (AKA big 4 or mckinsey etc). The organization is Atkins however, from my understanding it’s a big engineering/construction firm. I was wondering if this would have similar prestige to the top 3 consulting firms and have similar exit ops (in terms of potentially moving to PE)Thanks in advance!

Hey Afzal, great video ! Speaking of AM, I’ve been meaning to ask you something. I’m a first year undergrad in Business Administration and I’m thinking of doing a summer internship in AM. Do you think I should do one as an undergrad or as a masters student later ? Thanks !
@AfzalHussein

Hey, thanks. The sooner you can lock in such experience the better. Unless you have your eye on a different division/business unit from AM, in which case I would say focus on securing an internship in that area first and AM second.

Serious question: Is it possible to break into Finance (IB but especially PE/VC if I could choose freely) with a degree in medicine and no prior experience in finance? I study in Germany so my degree is fully in medicine (no minor). Do you know by chance any colleagues that have the same background as I do and are working in these sectors I mentioned above? Would be very happy about an answer!

There have been people in the medical profession who have gone into banking and finance at the intern / graduate / entry level but even that is quite rare. It's extremely difficult at the more senior levels. Especially if you have no relevant experience. You have to think of it like this, the people you're going to be competing against have relevant degrees, relevant qualifications, and relevant experience so it's very challenging to compete against them.

Thank you! So you think getting Into junior roles would be possible but entering senior roles would be more difficult? What do you think about going to MBB first and maybe doing an MBA while you‘re there and then switching to finance-jobs? Also I thought joing more healthcare-related VC- or PE-funds might be possible?
@AfzalHussein
Жыл бұрын
No probs. That's correct. MBB first and then MBA/finance would definitely be easier. Joining healthcare related PE/VC firms is possible given your medical background but depending on the role they'll still want someone that knows how to do the technical things like building models to value companies, etc.

@@AfzalHusseinThanks again! Don‘t get me wrong i Love medicine and would love to do something med-related in the future. I could not imagine doing another degree since I think I would Not be as motivated. In Germany the system is a bit different than in the USA. I think in the USA after attending undergrad you still can decide not to go to med school afterwards. But here in Germany it‘s one single studies. As I said before I still want to do something medicine-related, but don‘t like to practice as a doctor. I would really like to work in the field of Finance… Maybe MBB is the was to go😁 But do you think if I did an MBA during or after working at MBB i have still great chances of getting senior/high-level roles in PE/VC…. or will it be hard competing against others who did a Finace-related undergrad and did an MBA as you mentioned in the comments above?Thanks for your time!
