Kindly note that the beauty of Kerala culture, is due to openhearted embrace of cultures from distant lands, making it such an unique amalgamation. Your view that these are Hindu traditioms does not cut much ice, since the river Sindhu, from where the phrase 'Hindu' originated, is thousands of kilometres away from the presitinely green tropical forests of Kerala.

@@mustafanizam2608 Oh really, you seem to have so much knowledge. Firstly the culture and traditions shown here are definitely Hindu or Sanatan Darma (For Smart Asses Like You). Secondly beauty of Kerala is not about openhearted embrace of cultures from distant lands, because cultures from different land (Eg: Arab) had come to Kerala because of its proximity to the middle east. So it cannot be an openhearted embrace for sure. Rather you could say that early people in Kerala could be easily converted by foreign people. That's how Islam was introduced in India. You could do a background check and find out that you too were converted from Hinduism to Islam centuries ago !

Maybe they should get work in sanctuaries for rescued elephants? They are the experts in understanding those creatures. Did you see any rescues done by Wildlife SOS?..? @fife8332

@Allison Marie Peta kills more animals than they save. They are racket who makes money off of sappy ads that take advantage of peoples love of animals. If I were to tackle the problem of animal cruelty, I would start with their euthanisation of kittens and puppies, not the spoiled elephants in Kerala. These animals are just about domesticated and have been cared for by Hindus for thousands of years. If this were a horse being worshiped, no one would have an issue. Us Westerners need to stop pushing our ethics on the rest of the world.

Camels and cows are domesticated animals. Elephants are wild and endangered animals. Huge difference! Also pls don't drag faith into this. Nobody's targeting Hindu traditions. If so, there would be videos criticising Hindu temples keeping cows as well but there aren't

This channel is funded by chinese govt...strange how about talking about human rights in china...about lack of democracy, authoritarianism, freedom of speech and press....too ? How about the massacre in Tibet, Tiananmen square, uiguirs, among countless others? About how animals like dogs, snakes are killed and eaten? Or seafood eaten while still alive? Or when a lot of wildife is traded illegally including Indian tigers pangolins etc. for body parts used in " traditional Chinese medicine"?...yes lets start with those..than paid false news and falsehoods sensationalism.

@tintuu what about zoo and pets in houses you are captivating them and providing care but it doesnt matter because you own one of it for your fun, if these are left in forests poachers would kill them for trunks and if hanedover to government they cannot care humans properly how can they care elephants the politicians would kill and sell trunks and say they are dead. They are safe and alive with their owners rather than anyother place as owner even if chained shows care and love that cannot be found in government hands and are unsafe and politicians may exploit them.

It is wrong to believe that elephants are well taken care of in Kerala. Elephants are large social animals. The very fact that such huge inteligent animals are kept in isolation and captivity in itself is very cruel. The so called love of elephant is not love but curiosity without responsibilty. It is time to find out for alternative arrangements for festivals, without elepfants. Let them live in herd in protected firests. Then only we can say we love elephants.

Who are these PETA guys. I live in Kerala and I never heard of them in any issues with animals. Just bluffing in interviews. We love elephants and our tradition. The PETA guy who talked probably had mutton chaps for breakfast and talking about animal rights in the noon. കേരളത്തിൽ ഇനിയും പുരങ്ങൾ വരും. തിടമ്പേറ്റി കർണനും ,പാമ്പാടി രാജനും വന്നു നിൽക്കും ചെയ്യും.
PETA is a global organisation...very old and very well known...they fight for the protection and rights of all living things...chickens, rabbits...from the smallest to the biggest...Those elephants bulls were magnificent! The love of the people towards them unmistakable...Whole village look after their own...But there are plenty ellies out there (in temples and begging on streets and in riding tourism industry) who are so abused when you see them they are all like a Walking Dead. the times are changing...there will come a day with a zero elephants in captivity. And no amount of screaming "It is our tradition! Part of our religion!" will help... The Mahouts have to plan and think hard what next for them when that happens

Fun fact about 40% of keralaites are genetically srilankans. Their ancestors came from srilanka 8-10 centuries ago. They still have common cultural elements despite converted to hindus, like karalipayattu- a form of martial acts exising on both places, customs, food, architecture and many... I was in kerala and visited srilanka many times, and i can tell you kerala is like an extension of srilanka.

Elephants coming to human habitats and disturb normal life were captured by forest department and were tamed in olden days. Now Baby elephants which gets lost from herds are rescued and tamed. In kerala, the eastern parts is covered with forests of western ghats. So there are lot of animals which visit villages in search of food.
