Assisi, Italy | How is the Medieval City, land of Saint Francis of Assisi.
Assisi is one of the most charming cities in all of Italy. Among the Umbrian hills, with the perfection of the medieval landscape, rises the wonderful city of Assisi.
A medieval city like no other! A place where you feel peace, tranquility and desire to stay for many days!
If Assisi's mystical atmosphere wasn't enough, it was in this city that San Francisco and Santa Clara were born.
Travel Tips for 2 nights in the city:
How to get to Assisi? Assisi is easily accessible by train, car or plane. Where to sleep in Assisi? In the historic center.
San Francisco Basilica
The frescoes (of which those by Giotto, in the upper part, completed in 1300, are the most famous), narrate, through very expressive images, the life of the saint and scenes from the Old and New Testaments. In September 1997, Assisi was hit by an earthquake that caused damage to the basilica, particularly the frescoes on the ceilings.
Go down to the crypt, where the tomb of St. Francis is located. A very simple and unpretentious place, which evokes peace and invites meditation.
Francis was a simple man of prayer, as was his life. He loved nature, as he supported the idea that every creature was a gift of God's absolute love, so much so that he wrote a poem called "The Canticle of Creatures" - the first Italian literary poem.
