I loved the majestic, mystic and sentimental music in this! Used to watch it over and over again on the TV back in the day.. Got my first satellite TV system in 1992, being 10 years old it was such an amazing time to be able to watch all these channels.. I dearly miss those magical days, there's nothing at all like this anymore.. Digital tv and digital equipment doesn't have the same "soul" and feel. Greetings from Sweden.

@LUNARIA project I completely agree with you my friend. My uncle was an electrical engineer and when he moved house in 1993 he gifted my parents with his Sky TV reciever and dish, which he installed for us one weekend. I was eleven years old at the time, and sat for an hour watching him and my Dad tune in the box, seeing all these bizarre scrambled channels lol Finally they inserted the card and as if by magic I suddenly had access to WWF, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Eurosport, MTV, The Discovery Channel etc etc. Was better than Christmas!! I now use Sky Digital HD4K and despite the superior signal, sound and picture quality, I find scrolling through the hundreds of channels in order to locate a decent programme or movie a laborious and frustrating chore.

I also miss this and the time with "Sverigeparabol" tv3, tv4, kanal 5, tv6 and Z-Tv free to air.... On Astra other European channels fta. Today mostly only some German and Ukranian channels transmit fta.

I used to like MTV Europe as it played all the European chart hits rather than just the UK charts; found loads of good songs that way such as Peacock Palace 'Heatwave'.

I remember this being shown on loop on what was meant to be the Warner Channel, which failed to launch in Nov '96. Even now its a very interesting short film. When I hear the Romeo and Juliet music, I don't think of The Apprentice - I think of Astra!

My dad got sky tv in 1992 and it was only like £20 a month for everything. We had a Panasonic analogue receiver . It blew up and had to be replaced under warranty . I remember when my folks went on holiday and I moved the dish alignment looking for hotbird satellite and certain German late night channels. I was only 14 , I found what I was looking for !!! 😂

I remember this. It was a channel that transmitted this information on loop. It was great having satellite TV. Always switching from sky to eutelsat at 19.2°east for MTV. Im English but also German raised so i never had a problem watching the German channels.

It's so nice and heartwarming to see we all had the exact same experience: we watched this endlessly as a child, were fascinated by the technology and science involved and absolutely adored the music used. And we all miss those days from the late eighties/early nineties when the satellite technology was almost magical and mystical. I have no idea who produced these majestic Astra promotional videos, but they did an outstanding job for this.

I had an 80cm satellite dish equipped Nokia Astra Satellite receiver, and I got near 100% good sparklie free pictures with hiss free Wegener Panda 🐼 1 stereo sound. In Northern England where I lived, the 80cm dish gave better results over 60cm dishes as some of the signals on the European channels were slightly weaker in strength. The pictures only suffered in the heaviest rain snow hail or sleet but apart from that, the pics and sound were mostly good the majority of the time.
