I went for that 19pc, 3/8" set last year - 6mm - 24mm felt like a no-brainer - every size I'd ever need at 3/8" for getting to a tight to reach spot on my 2002 Silverado or a friend or family member's vehicle I might be helping them out with. Also grabbed their 17mm, Long, Flex-Head, Nano Socket Ratchet Wrench(p/n 78318) to drive the sockets --

I will have to add the 78318...it wasn't a thing when I ordered this, lol. Hopefully they make an equivalent iteration for the 1/2" with a little extra length.

@@lonestarmopars Couldn't pass it up once I saw it existed - popped-up as a suggested product when I was going back and forth between to the different sets. 18" OAL, so it would be cool if they made a 24" version for the 1/2drive sockets that was 19mm or some other useful, larger size.
@lonestarmopars

Cool. The 19 pcs metric 3/8 drive set is really nice. I sometimes use it with a 17mm x 19mm Telton extra-long double box end 6 point wrench (or any 17mm box end wrench). You can use a bluepoint magnetic low profile 1/4" to 3/8" adapter to hold the socket to the box end (a piece of paper works in a pinch as well). One more thing: Although this is a specialty set, the range with no skips might really come in handy for the beginner for the priice...call me crazy.

Nice...Yeah, this would be a great setup for someone to start with...Then add a nice set of thick walled 1/2" deep. That would cover a lot of bases and give a solid foundation to upgrade from as needed. I'd have no issue using these all the time, just want to treat them as a bonus item since I'm set on other fronts.

I actually just pulled the plug on these sockets recently after wanting them for a long time. I picked up the same husky 3/8 metric set from home depot which also has a plastic rail that I prefer. Also picked up the Quinn 1/2" metric at harbor freight ( FYI they weren't on the shelf yet) which were quite a bit cheaper than the astro but it comes in foam. Planning on picking up SAE sets for work soon. I got the tekton long double box flexhead 17mm/19mm to use with the 3/8 set and I use a HF metal socket rail clip to hold it in. I do the same with the Mayhew dual drive bit sockets. I've been trying to get that double box Nano ratchet for months now but it's always out of stock. Lot of places just restocked the astro 18" flexhead 17mm ratchet/wrench for the 3/8" Nano sockets (part 78318) and I ordered one from jersey discount tools. Getting the Nano sockets with the astro ratchet wrench or the tekton long ratcheting wrenches (the new ones are very nice w/ satin finish) seem like a good alternative to the mountain style double box wrenches from companies with a good warranty and it saves on space.

Yeah, the Quinn could turn out to be the most economical. I'd had seen the Husky, but got a better price going this route. Someone mentioned the wrench has been discontinued...hopefully they have something in the pipeline. It is nice, but you also have to choke up on it and loose leverage.

Olsa does also have the clip on ends as an option. Though they come with the rubber stoppers like you mentioned. Also that Tekton is old, all the new have stamping...

I had another commenter that it was no longer available. Judging by the rest of the comments, it seems to be in pretty high demand. Hopefully Astro sees this and gets it back in production, or releases a new solution. Kind of odd the 78318 is out and the 1/2" needing a 22mm would just be left hanging. Hopefully it was just 3/8" made more sense to release first and the equivalent for 1/2" is coming down the line.

That seems to be the theme in the comments...hopefully Astro realizes there is a demand for this. I probably made this video back in late Spring of 2023...hadn't really monitored for it since getting it. I did learn there is a 78318 that is an 18" 17mm flex head...That would be great for the 3/8" setup, but leave you hanging for 1/2" offerings...Hopefully an equivalent is in the works.

Somewhere in the back of my mind; I recall someone, maybe Kaystar? or Lang? had a super thin Ratchet with an anvil on it. Sort of along the line of those old KayStar 'open toothed laminated wrenches' that were popular in the '80's. they had an exposed mechanism. (Snappy had them, Mac, Wright, Craftsman, KayStar, a bunch of others all same part numbers, lol) but I think someone had one with a 3/8" anvil. Maybe my mind is playing tricks, IDK

I've seen something like that at HF. It basically looks like an extra-long double flex head wrench with a 1/4" anvil on one end and a 3/8" anvil on the other. I've also seen them with a 1/4" anvil on one end and a 1/4" hex bit drive on the other.

Wright still makes those open head ratchets, they make it in 1/2", 3/8", and one with a 3/8" and a 1/4" on the other side. Never seen a low profile in that style though

I never had an open head ratchet, but can confirm you can get one from Wright with the dual heads. Also, the laminated wrenches are all over the place...They were some of my first wrenches iirc! Would be interesting to see a long ratchet in that style.

I have the 3/8 sets up to 19 and that double box end ratchet wrench. I dislike the non reversible wrench. You need it for close quarters, so be careful and don't get it stuck! Plus the flex joint doesn't have detents, making it difficult to get it on the fastener that's already hard to get to. It does hold the sockets fairly well and is a decent length. Of course it would be much improved if it were reversible and locking. Also more expensive, I suppose. I use the sockets on my impact quite a bit and they work well on regular ratchets.

Gearwrench style passthrough ratchets work, and are reversible. I have one from Crescent.
