Roomba S9+ with Auto Emtpy Bin is $1099 and Roborock S7+ with Auto Empty Bin is $949, so $1000 for a sophisticated robot is actually right in line with other sophisticated robot vacuums. The Roborock S6 MaxV has both Lidar (laser) and front-facing camera. The AI navigation and mapping is fantastic, so smart navigation robots are already on the market. Now the big difference is that these robot vacuums actually do real work. Most folks look to robots to perform some kind of time consuming task so they don't have to. The Roomba/Roborock have saved us countless hours of floor cleaning time. We used to pay someone to occasionally clean the house but now don't have to. It does enough that we can handle the rest ourselves. Haven't had to sweep or mop (also have an iRobot Braava Jet mop) in months. So it's paid for itself already. The Astro seems cool, but it doesn't really seem to solve any problem that would get rid of any time consuming tasks like the robot vacuums do. Maybe they will figure something out.
