I've owned this laptop for around 4 months and there are a few things that I have noticed. Shipping in single channel isn't horrible since it's only a $60 upgrade to install another 16gb and still puts the price below a similar spec Razer Blade. If you repaste the throttling is nearly non existant in most games. For me the largest complaint is the slow transfer speeds of the H10 SSD. I upgraded the boot drive to a 1tb 970 EVO and made the H10 optane drive my game storage. One thing to note about doing that....if you disable optane the drive gets even slower since 2 pcie lanes are for the nand flash and the other 2 pcie lanes are for the optane. I use throttlestop as well and it appeared that you had speedshift enabled which will cause frame drops depending on where it is set.

I've been using it for a year... bought it December 2019 and regret my decisions. The laptop is thin and lightweight as one of the Zephyrus series. It's got a rtx 2060 nice. Can run games decently. However it tends to get really hot at times that even a cooling pad didn't help. I bought 2 different cooling pads to try as well. All in all, it might have broken down after a year or perhaps the thermals are originally pretty bad. For a price tag like that, there are better options for us in 2020.

I had this laptop for a year now. It's definitely a good laptop for gaming. I don't see any frame rates that drop randomly even playing on some of the new games. The RTX functions are a little wonky as it's a 2060, but I have those settings off when I play on Max settings. I get about 90-120 FPS on CoD. I would recommend this laptop though. As for heat consumption it does get hot. I actually got a Logitech keyboard instead of playing on the laptop it self.

I bough this laptop over a month ago as refurbished and on sale for $940. When you account for shipping, taxes, and adding the extra 16g memory to make it dual channel, it cost a total of $1100. The one I have is the GTX 1660 ti video and the 240hz monitor. It performs quite well and scores above its average in Futurmark and usersbenchmark tests when you use turbo. The CPU stays in the 80's and the GPU is in the 60's for temp. The GPU utilization when higher when it was in dual channel, so using it in single channel will leave performance on the table. Is this worth the list price of $1600, no, but at $1100 it is worth considering. Undervolting did not do much in temps and performance. Overclocking the GPU also does not to much either. Using the turbo mode, it will keep the GPU at about 1.92 ghz while the CPU is at about 3.8 ghz. The one thing you should have talked about is how the Asus Armory Crate works. You can have different modes for each program between Windows control, performance, turbo, silent and custom. I have been able to tweak the battery life to last almost 5 hours on this while watching videos. Out of the box it was much less. You also talked about how hot it got. Yes, it gets toasty, but compared to my HP Envy 17 with a i8 8550u and MX150, was was much warmer to the touch, but ran cooler than my HP when comparing CPU and GPU. I had to severely undervot the CPU to keep it in the 60's (stock it was in the 90).

I liked your review. I have this exact model for gaming. Your take is spot on. I'm pretty happy with mine, because I am just a casual gamer. At the time of purchase, I was just looking for something that could handle Killing Floor 2. I operate on factory settings, concentrating on performance. So, yes, my fans do kick in and get quite loud. I know it's a laptop, designed to be portable, but I mostly use it sitting on my glass top desk, with a USB keyboard in the keyboard tray. I have not, however, noticed it getting overly warm. It could have to do with the fact that, after spending so much money on it, I decided to make sure it could get air very well (I propped up the back of the laptop ever so slightly). My old Toshiba (RIP) never even got close to this warm, but my old Samsung (good riddance!) got much much hotter than this bad boy. When I first got it, before setting up my office space, I played it sitting in bed, with the laptop sitting on my knees (still making sure not to cover the vents/fans). It did get a little warm for that, but not overly. Again, love the review. You said it better than I ever could have. :) Thanks for sharing.

I would make sure to add a second stick of RAM so it runs in dual channel, that will probably make a difference for the 3D work. Should be pretty solid for those things though 👍

I got this one at bestbuy in NY in 2019, keyboard started to fail after a couple of months (USB device descriptor failed on device manager) very randomly, sometimes 1-2 times per month but now in 2021 the keyboard completely died and only worked on BIOS. I tried to fix it in the past 2 months and nothing, I reinstalled windows x10 times , tried different versions like the 1903 and so on, at the end I had to sell it because it was a mess. I pretty much think that the bloatware from asus broke the firmware of my keyboard.

If you’re really worried about it, I would get something under $1000 now (with like a 1650), then resell it and get an RTX 3000 model when they launch. I just feel like recommending to wait a year is excessive because that’s a really long time to go without being able to game, and there will always be something new on the horizon 👍 1660ti and 2060 are pretty comparable unless you really want to run 30fps RTX games on the 2060. Look at the wattages and reviews, a higher wattage 1660ti can outperform Max-Q 2060s.
