Wow! Quite impressive. I was considering buying a USB hub but had no idea whether it would work or not. Very nice video, keep up the good work!

ASUS is great for these features. I have a USB used as a NAS via the ASUS, plus UPNP media share and FTP. Great routers.

This is exactly what I'm looking for! LOL I just tried to add an extra external drive to my router and had totally messed things up!... though I can't find a similar product as the powered USB port shown yet, at least I know there's such a possibility with my Asus router now. Thank you! 😊

There's plenty of powered USB hubs available on Amazon...for something like this, you absolutely want a powered hub.

hello, thank you very much for the initiative in demonstrating in a basic way the functionality of this usb port in the routers, I was having doubts about the use of the usb hub, but now I see that it can be used, I looked in the manuals and they don't say anything, now I'm on doubt if it is also possible to access a printer in the same method that you adopted with the usb hub, and if this use is possible in other models of routers, because the one you used in the video is very expensive to buy here in Brazil. Thanks. (sorry for the bad english, but i'm using google translator)

Since the Asus's power adapter comes with just 1.5 or at the most 2A, wouldn't be helpful powering the router with an adapter with some 10A and so it can be used an ordinary 3.0 USB hub with no power adapter of its own?!

Hi - this was super helpful. My hard drive says "unmounted" in the network map section and I can not access the drive. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for posting this video

I just ordered an Asus 2900 gaming router. Will I be able to connect a powered 8TB WD Elements hard drive to the 3.0 USB port? I'm hoping to use it to backup all of my computers and as a media server.

I have the same router and even know the router recognizes the USB hub, I have trouble when watching and displaying folders on anything shared. Some files are null and some folders don't show up. Do I need a powered USB hub? Right now I'm just using a regular USB hub and I think that could be the problem.

The problem is unlike a true multidisk NAS the USB connection will occasionally choke and cause the entire router to crash. I have a 2 disks (18TB/6TB) connected via USB2-3 as local media servers and run into bottleneck issues all the time. My next mayor network upgrade will be replacing those disks with a true NAS wired via RJ45 to the router.

Are your disks self powered or external hub powered and even then its choking the router? I have 1TB and 4TB connected to 2 separate USB ports in router. They are detected fine but heavy file transfers tend to crash the router. I am hoping that external power supply via a powered hub might solve it for me.

@@lordhoodme They are self powered desktop disks; mobile external disks drawing power from the router significantly underperform while wearing out the router. The core application is a general media server for the house so it is mostly read-only operations. Anything more than 1 concurrent writing operation to the disks almost guarantees the whole router will crash or a Samba1 error and require a restart, therefore I'm the only one who copies files to the disks at any time. It's also impossible to read/write simultaneously without significant choke or collapse of the network to those disks. Otherwise the network feeds various Firesticks running VLC throughout the house without a problem; like having my own private Netflix.

Hello, I've a doubt, if you can answer me i'll be thankful. So, I work at an industrie in Brazil, and we've some machines that can only generate .csv reports to PenDrives (USB protocol), so, i was wondering if i can do the NAS server with the HUB in those machines to write this reports. and acess via server. Something like: MACHINES connected with USB to HUB, the HUB connected with USB to router and I acess router via server or PC. Please, help me with that

I don't know much about this kind of things, but the router has the drives in the normal fat32 format so I imagine they will behave exactly like one plugged into the computer directly.

The other commentor is correct, the USB drives will act exactly as if they're connected to your PC (or your "machines") once it's set up. You only need to make sure that you can select which folder these machines save the .csv reports to. The USB drives will show up in the file explorer, or they should
