rounding the trailing edge is less efficient aerodynamically than a sharp corner (long story) - easiest tool is a sealing iron set low enough to flatten the edges :)

nice looking plane. i wanted one a while back but was always out of stock so ended up getting the phoenix 2m instead. The asw28 has a huge cockpit area compare to my phoenix.

Hi Jeff! Thank you for two very instructive videoes on the ASW28. I didn't get your live stream on the maiden, but I looked over the comments afterwards and notised that there was a question on how this plane does as a FPV platform. Really good I must say, you can check out my videoes on my modifications. I notsed that you considered the authorities of the control surfaces as very good. May be in dead calm weather, but in windy conditions with turbulens I learned (the hard way) that it wasn't too good. Many have programmed in flapperons, I followed Brian Philips' advice and extended the control surfaces. I've got very fond of this model. I'm now building my 4th version, building in all my previos mods from ground to get it, at least in my eyes, as perfect as possible. Thanks again! - and happy flying!

Looking at this plane along with the Tower Hobbie version of the AWS 28, is all EPO though where this one has the harder fuselage. They are both running at $199.00, no longer a $102.00 price tag on this one. Looks like a great plane though and thanks for sharing your experience with it.

I would love to know the wattage of the stock motor installed on the ASW28... The only thing I found was the rpm per volt which is 850kV... If I knew the wattage, I would know the maximum amps the motor needs, so I would go for the proper battery setup.

Thanks for the info. Just put mine together and had the problems you identified. I also enlarged the hole for the servo wires in the fuselage, wouldn't want to mess about on a cold day on the hill doing that. I put in a 1300mah 3s, kept the pilot and wheel and it seems to be spot on with the battery all the way to the back. Locating the wings I also had the problem of one not locating but think I may have had some wires fouling the gap. Going to have a look now at putting the connections into the wing that would make it so much easier. Thanks for sharing.

Good morning, is this glider only suitable for flying in thermal winds, or can I also fly it at an altitude of 2,600 metres?

Hi Jeff, ArxangelRC has reported that on his ASW28 there was not enough epoxy between the fin and the plastic horizontal stab mount, and the fin and the plastic piece that is fixed to the fuselage. Happily the failures happened on landing, but he also had a camera on the fin which increased the mass and the stress to the tailpieces. Keep up the good work. Cheers.

man they still sell it ? this was my first glider... and the only good thing about it is the invicible fuselage. cord is too small (problem with all semi maquette like) and the aileron size is ridiculous.... Once i struggle to land at a slope with 15-16m/sec and i was just controlling in binary mode, full left full right full front... To compensate for the small cord they made a very thick wing with 17% (3cm thick for 17cm cord) while all my other glider (i now have 9 of them: from foamy to f3k and f3f full carbon) are 7-9% to lot lot of drag. and you really need to give it speed or it will fly like a brick... falling down. and the motor is weak and you have to setup esc brake. if you really want to buy something like taht kind, buy the latest iteration of the phoenix (2.6m i think) which got very better wings with longer cord.

Hi Jeff, super tipps again! I have bought a second hand model for not too much. Just to test how sailing/gliding is. I will check your points on mine. The thing with the balance lead for flap+servo would be cool. I haven´t found the video you told yet. Happy flying! I´m about to maiden my second hand Draco too :) Just have been following your tips too

Picked one up a couple months ago and can't put it down. I've deleted the wheel and similarly blocked off the hole with foam and hot glue, though I'm running 4s 5000mAh packs, as all of my batteries at the moment are either much larger or much smaller, and doing that mod lets me even get those chungus batteries far enough back that it balances perfectly. It wants to fly slightly fast that way, but the flight times are incredible! I've stayed up for more than an hour and a half at my favorite spot near a river gorge.

Hello friend. Is the ASW28 glider good for thermals? I want to buy a good thermal glider in order to get a good flight time. I'm from Brazil and there are a lot of thermals here. And on a few thermal days, with a battery of 3S 2200mah or 3000 mah, how many minutes do you think you can fly? 30 min with a 3000 mah battery?

Let's face it, this is a low quality kit. I've seen multiple videos on this airplane and the list of things that are wrong is long. Fit/Finish being a big one. Think about it, would a decent model spawn a number of videos on how to fix all the issue users have? lol

Hi Jeff. I simplified the aileron and flap servo attachment on my ASW 28 by using the same system the Eflite Commander asp uses for the flap and aileron servo attachment. Very simple and quick!
