Interesting video of the old bridge and mental hospital.

I had an uncle who spent time at the Osawatomie State Hospital in the late '40s thru the late '50s. As a child of 6 in the mid '50s, I remember going there to visit him. It was a very scary place. I stayed close to my parents while we were in the building..

It’s definitely creepy. I really wish I could have gone inside but this one was definitely off-limits.

Data tech here from Wichita KS , we did a job out here pulling fiber optic cable that run through the tunnels that connect the whole hospital grounds ,and some parts only had access through the old buildings. That being said we saw a lot of shadows in rooms during the day to see they were empty. We also heard stuff falling over or sliding every now and again. Craziest part was when one of my coworkers (Max) was in the tunnels talking to our lead (Josh) for about 5 minutes about work and then turned the corner to grab something from Josh and saw he was gone, come to find out Josh was never down there and was outside by the truck getting more wire the whole time. Max’s face was white when he found out and wouldn’t go down in those tunnels the rest of the job lol. Even Josh was really rattled ,who happens to very devout Christian. he couldn’t believe something down there was copying him but yeah it definitely changed my view on the paranormal.

What a cool bridge, and formidable building. That complex was HUGE! We have a long way to go towards understanding and being kind to the mentally ill, but we've come a long way since then. It must've been very daunting pulling up there in a horse and buggy for the first time. Thanks for always finding room to tuck me into the car when you go exploring! I have a lot of health problems, and your videos are likely the only way I'll ever see any of these interesting, often beautiful sights. Thanks, Julian!

I wish I could have gone inside the building but I really don’t like trespassing. I Was kind of shocked when I learned about how big this place was especially the buildings. I’m glad you are liking the places that I’m visiting. I know sometimes they aren’t always super exciting but it is fun to go exploring. Thank you for coming along with me! Take care.

As of 08-12-2023, the state has began demolition of the old infirmary. Much to the chagrin of the residents of the area.

That is so sad. I knew that they were going to tear it down. It is such a shame because it is an incredibly beautiful building. I understand why they are tearing it down because it’s probably beyond repair. There’s no telling how much money it would cost to repair that. I feel lucky that I was able to see it and get some video of the place before it’s gone.😔

Have they torn the bridge down also?
@PhilDavis122
Жыл бұрын
@sarahp9982 No. But because it's on the National Register of Historical Places, the City can't do anything to it. It's falling apart and will collapse eventually. The yearly flooding of the Marais Des Cygne river hasn't done the bridge any favors.

When I was a child I used to go for walks with my late Father. Nowhere special, odd little places he remembered from when he was growing up - or sometimes just to see what was round the next corner... I remember once he showed me the house where my Great-Grandfather raised five children - it was SO tiny! That's what I love about these films, it's like taking a walk with an excitable friend just to see what's there... I'm with you on not going into the building, by the way, (I guess I've seen too many movies that start off like that!), I'm just thankful that unlike your visit to the remains of the Grand Terrace you didn't try to get through the fence for a closer look at that bridge...

@@JulianGower definitely a good call not going in... I'm security at Osh and youd have been escorted out pretty quickly. The building is the Dijon building and is used for fire training as well as some local fire and law enforcement using the building for training. Its unsafe to be in for anyone in the public.

@@Godshock777 I drive by that old building every time I go through also Adamy. I really do love those old buildings. It is a shame they can’t be saved but if they’re beyond repair and are dangerous they should probably go. I would have loved to have seen the main building before he got torn down.

I actually take my dog for walks around the bridge during the evening I'm not a very timid man but I do get a weird sensation that I'm being watched when I'm making my normal walk to the bridges entrance and turn around 😅 lol

My dad and I drove there yesterday. Was going to visit the museum. Was told the museum, such as it was, was in the administration building, and that there was not much to it. It wasn't open to the public and special arrangements had to be made to get in. The bridge was kinda creepy. Could tell it hasn't been used in years.
