Composting is the natural breakdown of organic wastes, in which aerobic bacteria, fungi, and soil organisms transform carbon and nitrogen rich materials into an organic matter and nutrient rich soil amendment. The finished compost product makes a great addition to gardens or potted plants to improve soil structure and provide plant nutrients. Home composting is a process that is scalable and requires modest effort once the system is up and running. At-home composting can be utilized to address the large amount of household food waste that is sent to the landfill each year.
